I am crazy about OEG Bantams! One home hatched little roo is especially close to my heart, my boy Otis. I normally only buy sexed chicks when a hen goes broody but let the little banty hen hatch out 4 of her eggs, then I insisted on handling the chicks daily. It sure did pay off as all of the chicks are super tame at one year old.

Here is a pic of Otis. Super sweet and docile he is an absolute doll. He lives in the coop but spends a couple of nights a week in the house.

Guess it was partly luck. The broody OEG has never been very tame but when the hatch started I moved her nest (it was in a cat carrier) inside the house and kept her and the chicks in for a couple of days then handled the chicks from day 1.

When they moved out to the coop I was really only able to handle them at dusk when they settle in for the night. Food helps! They were also color coded with a magic marker so each chick received attention.

Much of it has to be genetic though. I have some 4 week old layer chicks (CA Whites and EEs) and they were raised in the house and handled a lot but really hate being held.

Got red gingers here with a beilifelder and a bardxcemani, the lil ones love their big sisters, me not as much till I sit withem for a while. I love my banty chicks and on the other extreme I also have Indio gigantes growing out! The oegb were shipped eggs and I got 3out of 8 survive usps and 20 days in the cooker lol. Luckily got a roo and 2 hens though. Love everyone's birds here thanks for sharing!

I bought these at tsc thinking they were silver duckwing oegb, but I have two of the 6 with tan legs. Any ideas?

Chicks often change leg color as they grow. However, it does look like the other chicks have green legs, which should turn slate/blue. If that happens, then they’re probably Dutch bantams.

The ones you are calling green are the ones I call tan. The other four have orange legs. My silver duckwing oegb had orange legs as babies.
