Old fashioned Broody Thread for Ducks

Pics
Well, this is what came out of the 2 live eggs....!!

How does the yellow one come about?? there were 2 more yellow's and 4 brown's in the eggs that died
I strongly suspect the mother actually has a lot of silver Appleyard but she's got dark legs and olive beak and has laid 60 eggs in 60 days since her autumn moult - this little one's got orange legs and pink beak and is much bigger than the brown (although it did hatch 22 hours before the other)
I was just wondering today how your hatch went, and look at those 2 cuties.. yellow one? great grand daddy? I have no idea. lol

I guess time will tell, if it's female and it lay's like it's mother it'll be great...
In the mean time they're so much fun!! the yellow one has such a comical look, it looks so innocent and inquisitive especially with it's dark chocolate eyes, looks like a little mouse from front on

They are so precious. Nothing better than lil ducklings. What do you think happened that the rest died?

Couple of options I think,

1) Where she was nesting was where all our ducks sleep at night which hasn't been a problem to her until the very last week in which our 2 Muscovy boys have suddenly become very interested in the opposite sex, the day the ducklings hatched and before I could partition her off I caught a red-faced teenager trying to have a go (clumsily at that) with his mother on the nest, this resulted in eggs being rather forcefully pushed around etc. (maybe the reason we were getting eggs rolled out the nest earlier on and we didn't notice) and I noticed one egg that died had some cracks in it that were not there when set or candled earlier. He got told off properly!!

2) While the others were hatching there often seemed to be eggs around the edge of the nest that weren't getting much warmth that we kept trying to push under her with some success but I suspect some got a bit chilled, she was fine the next day though

They all looked almost ready to pip internally to me

That's too bad, but even though you lost some you still have some nice ducklings, how's the first group doing?

Really well but I have to admit our attention has mostly been taken by these last 2... they've got mum though
Oh I'm sure those 2 have already stolen your hearts. They sure are precious. i miss not having ducklings but have to skip a year for lack of space. So my 3 from last year are still my babies. and they were raised by their mama. Only every had 1 duckling in the house and only because it's mama tried to kill him. He is almost 3yrs now. Still likes to come in for visits though.Be sure to post pics as your lil ones grow.
