In the Brooder
I am still in the "trial & error" stage with my current flock of 1 lavender Orpington rooster (Gandalf), 1 Barred Rock/Orpington rooster mix (Chickie), 2 Easter Eggers (Celestine & Pistachio), 2 Barred Rocks (Cadence & Harmony), 1 Rhode Island Red (Aiden), 1 Silkie (Sally, my brood hen), & 1 Orpington mix (Ebony). They are guarded by my 4 Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd/Irish Wolfhound dogs (Ma Belle, Papa Beau, Edur, & Keena), ignored by my 2 feral cats (Midnight & Mrs. Kitty), & a source of fascination to our newest dog, a ShihTzu-Chihuaha (Princess). The people who live here are elders (66, 77, 87) & the 5 children & 19 grandchildren who visit are 53-28yo & 31-2yo & all love animals. Two of those grandchildren picked out the members of our flock with the exception of Gandalf who was a gift & Chickie & Ebony who were hatched by Sally. Most of us enjoy the outdoors but there are a few who prefer more "managed" environments
