I am making an old rabbit cage we had for my daughters rabbit into my brooder. Going to tractor supply (only one in RI) to pick up heat lamp. One question i have is what should i use at first for bedding? I have read i should wait a few days before using pine shavings. Let me know what you guys/gals think. I would post a pic but it won't let me

i have always used pine bedding the first day just not too thick or sometimes they have hard times walking

Thank you, i have seen some people use puppy pee pads.

I use pine shavings for now. But I have been reading about using sand. I'm told that you can sift out the poop and the sand in more clean than shavings. They can also use it from time to time as grit or bathe in it. I'm going to use it next time I clean my brooder. It is also supp to help with smell. I sure hope so. haha

I read somewhere that it is good to use "Washed Sand" because it is rinsed of free silicates that can be more easily kicked up and inhaled into your lungs and into your chicken's lungs. You can search for Sand and Gravel dealers in your area and buy in bulk. I also read that river sand is good.
