Olive egger or barred rock?

Well, I am far from an expert but she certainly looks like a Barred Rock to me! I know that you were hoping to have an olive egger...but this isn't one. She looks like all of my young Barred Rocks looked when I had some!

If she does end up being a barred rock at least you've got a beautiful bird with generally a great temperament. My barred rocks are some of my favorites! And I know a lot of people who feel the same way I like them because they're laid-back, personable but also don't take no crap from the others. At least that's how mine are

Most likely barred rock but I wouldn’t give up hope yet, a lot of olive eggers have rock in the mix.

I suppose it's possible she could be an olive egger... but she really does look like a barred Rock. I wouldn't get my hopes up too terribly high for olive colored eggs from her.
She's very pretty girl though.

Are her legs green and not yellow?

They are a dull yellowish but also gray

I’m hoping she just took on the feather pattern. But I’m not fluent in chicken genetics and this is also my first flock. I guess time will tell but I’m really hoping for green!

Barred rock in my opinion. What type of Maran did you get? I have a friend who's cuckoo Maran looks just like a barred rock when she was young She doesn't look like an olive Egger but I've had to olive acres before that looked nothing like what I expected but laid the coolest olive eggs. I've always heard with all of Eggers you're really chancing it because of how their bred. I don't really know but that's what I've heard

I have a black copper maran. I’m hoping that’s the case! That she just happened to look similar to a barred rock. I love her anyway! But I was just really hoping for some olive eggs. I can see how it would be a chancing it though like you said.

It just struck me yesterday as I’m becoming more familiar with breeds. I was like wait a second she looks awfully similar to a barred rock. I guess no green eggs from her lol

yes! I love her personality! She is friendly but also dominant yet not aggressive! She is not timid and she is quite quirky! And she is the smartest of the flock. So I truly love my Piper regardless of what she ends up being haha

You may get a surprise though I have an olive acre that I can't even tell you what she looks like she is the oddest looking bird I've ever seen. She doesn't have the big cheeks and she has yellow legs and has The oddest color pattern on her. I figured I just get another brown egg it out of her but to my surprise she lays a green egg. It's the oddest color olive I've ever seen different from the other olive Egger but really cool looking. So she may surprise you!
