Does anyone watch AgDay? The other day they were talking about how there is concern that by 2050 the world will have severely depleted the fish in the oceans and that leads to worry over where we will get our essential Omegas. THey have been genetically engineering soybeans... (I dont like my food to be monkeyed with thanks) and they also briefly mentioned that Omegas can be found in -wait for it--- the EGGS of hens who have been fed FLAX! Well imagine my delight, we feed our hens a LOT of flax (they like it and it stretches the feed out when we mix in a butt load of sunflower meats and flax seed) so we are already getting these enriched eggs from our lovely ladies! So, if you dont already, feed ur chooks flax seed!

It is funny about the fish and Omega 3's

My family are Alaska Fishermen and most of the Salmon you purchase in the stores are from Farm raised Salmon. Here is the kicker. In order for the Salmon to produce the Omega 3's it has to venture into deep cold water. This is not something that happens on a fish farm. They never "turn." So if you are eating grocery store Salmon, that fish - while delicious, is not providing you with Omega 3's.

I guess you are better off feeding flax and eating eggs!

I'm trying to find a friend in AK that I can exchange things with... a cooler of xyz for a cooler of real salmon cause I grew up on fresh caught wild salmon and hate the store stuff. No luck so far.

Why the heck don't they tell us?! Thank goodness for flax seed, I've been putting it in the girl's feed for quite some time now and I'm sure I'm getting the results of that! It really does make a difference in their feathers-shiny!

Thanks for telling us about the salmon!

I throw fish heads and guts to my chickens after a fishing trip so they get enough omega 3 there. Only wild caught fish have omega three in good quantity. They get their omega three from eating vegetation. A lot of your farm raised fish unfortunately eat corn because it is so cheap.
