OMG..I THINK WE FOUND A GRAVE IN OUR BACKYARD! "UPDATE PAGE 11"

There's a cemetery from an old "ghost town" near where my in-laws live. My husband and I and a few friends went up there in the dark of night once, just for thrills. To me it was really peaceful, and still is. One of the tv stations in Minnesota did a story on it for their "Finding MInnesota" series.

Vicksburg Cemetery

There is now a group that cares for the cemetery and has cleaned it up quite a bit. It's really sad how the town just dispersed after a few years. I have found nothing about the buildings that used to be a part of the town. But just the idea fascinates me. There's a lot of children's graves there, and that really points to a different time when medical help wasn't readily available, nor knowledgable of some of the different things that would affect people.

Oh very cooool. I do not have an old cemetary or graves other than from the animal kind on my property but love old cemetaries and the mystery that goes with them. Ok so I'm a little wierd! lol

WARNING THE 1RST PARAGRAPH MAY BE CONSIDERED SCARY AND OR DISTURBING TO SOME READERS!!!!

For the following I guarantee I'm sane.

Not sure if these count but here goes. 1rst off apparently my great uncle's earn is buried some where on my 2 acres and no one ever told my grandpa where for some dumb reason. On my property and right next to it I have seen weird, I guess you would say, shadow people (always a man's shadow). Once I was sitting in my coop and saw the shadow figure of a man walking toward the field and as soon as I saw it, it disappeared. Then one night I couldn't sleep so I decided to look out my window and got the feeling I was being watched so I turn around and saw, I'm guessing, the same shadow figure leaning on my door!!! As soon as I saw it it was gone. Also there is a vet right behind my property and a friend was driving down the road after picking up some meds. On the dirt road next to our property there is a telephone pole in the middle of the road. The friend and her daughter said that when they were driving by THEY BOTH saw a male shadow leaning on the pole and then it sunk into the ground.

Also, these aren't scary, but I will post them anyway. Back when I was in 4th grade (2004-2005?) It was discovered, during building a new kindergarten building, that my school was built on a HUGE Indian Burial ground. Then down the road from my home another of my friends grandparent's were building a bigger chicken coop and they discovered that it was an infant cemetary (small coffins, an alter and everything). After that they decided to rebuild somewhere else on the property.

Thats it for me.

I love finding old stones of my ancestors. Last year my husband and I went up to Lake Ontario for my 30th and we drove through a tiny town called Red Creek. I remembered the name from my geneology research and decided to try to find the local cemetery not only did we find it we found my 4th and 5th great grandparents stones!!!Totally unplanned!! It was a really awesome day. Here are a couple really great shots of my ancestors stones. They are from the early 1800's.

My neighbor has several grave sites on his farm - there is also a restaurant a couple towns over that has one of the original owners buried in the basement. He passed away in the winter and the only ground soft enough to dig into at the time was the dirt floor in the basement. The rest of the family left before the spring thaw and it was decided to leave him where he lay! The house has changed owners several times and then was converted into a restaurant yet he is still there!

That is so cool! Looks like a well kept place. I really like to walk through cemeteries, especially the old ones. Will even clean off a grave in respect for that person that has been long forgotten.
It is like a walk through time when you read some of the inscriptions.
Send pics Sooner, many times a grave was marked that way.
