I hope you get a full hatch....I know what you mean about exciting...I am loving this. I also have already started collecting eggs for the next batch. there is a guy/girl on ebay that is selling 20" silver laced wydonottes for 14.95 + 8.95 shipping - that might be a good deal .....

I am so addicted already! do you have pics of your babies yet?

Joni

OK this is tooooo addicting now....Another one was hatching when we went to check before bed so of course we had to watch it hatch. You will like the SLW, we have a hen by accident, but she is really pretty. Well, I will check in the morning as I really need to get to bed for another big day tomorrow.

Oh yeah, we are having the State Fair here this week and I just HAD to go look at the chickens there. Poor DH had to make sure they didn't have any eggs laying around that I would steal. LOL

Hey Jill - Ok one dumb question from one newbie to another - - where do you get all the abbreviations from? - I never know what people are talking about most of the time - sometimes I do....is there a cheat book or something? SLW is silver laced wyondonotte (sp) ?
there is a guy on ebay selling 20+ (SLW) for 14.95 + 8.90 shipping

Joni - yep that one is right. You know I just roamed here for a long time and kind of caught on to the abbreviations.

RIR - Rhode Island Red
SLW - Silver Laced Wyandotte
EE - Easter Eggers
BR - Barred Rock

That is all I can think of now but if you just take the first letters from the names then you have te abbreviations. To be honest, there are a few that I still don't get!!

We have another little chick this morning about 5 so we are up to 5 babies and about 5 moe that have pipped. These are so cool to watch.

Jill, where are the pics? I want to see your babies!

Hopefully you will have 10 babies to report by the end of the day but I would love to see pics of the first 5 - the superhero-ess bunch....if put the ess on the end as not to jinz you - hopefully you have all prissy butts!

these are from last night. We have 10 chicks so far and 1 more tyring to zip right now. I am using the egg carton method and unfortunately #8 got stuck to the carton while we were gone. It is now a resident of the "chick hospital" to see if we can get the little wing to work again. And #10 is also a resident of the hospital as it was dry for some reason and needed help getting the rest of the way out. She is sitting up and looking much better now and trying to move on its own. There are 2 damp wash clothes on the bottom of the box and a lamp on them and DD is trying to play nurse.

The 8 healthy chicks!!

The eggs came from a person that free ranges their chickens so they are mostly mixtures of breeds. I believe that the roosters may be. I did have about 8 blue eggs. There were some SLW in the flock but I don't have any black chicks yet. There are a couple of eggs still tryng to hatch now so I will have to wait and see what I all get yet.

I saw you had one son in Iraq - i have been there 5 times - I just retired from the Air Force after 23 years!
