Regular shavings not fine. About 5$ for a big cube of it. Usually plastic wrapped and outside by the doors.

Awesome! I will look into that and see if it helps. I’m in Kentucky but in the middle of nowhere haha. We’ve just been through a heat wave and I think I did really good for my flock and now it’s raining. The run has a slight slope to it so that doesn’t help my problem I’m sure...still going to try this and see if it helps.

We just did 14 days over 90 with heat indexes of 118. Then got 4 inches of rain last night.

Sounds like what we’re about to be going through. That was another reason I put the tarp over the run, shade and block the rain. The ducks love it but my chickens not so much. They will hide in the coop all day if it’s raining but with the tarp they’re able to come out and eat. Temps here have been in 93-98 range with the index up to 110. The chickens stayed in the coop when it got too hot, i have a fan in there and just left their door open.

Yup. Sky is falling.

Slope is good. It allows water to flow out. Moisture is good for the biology of the soil. Constant mud soup is not.

Even worms need air to breathe!

I only have soup in one main area, it’s by the gate...i dug a trench to have a way to release the water and then i put the wood pellets on it to soak up the remaining water. Still thinking about fencing the entire side yard to allow the grass to regrow in this area..but I’m sure i will still need a fly fix then too
