but to some people, pets and livestock are one and the same... an extension of the family. It's why I don't name my quail..

DD DOES name her chickens, they are pets, even though she gets eggs from them.

Very true. I call my chickens "The Girls" (which thoroughly confuses my husband, who doesn't know if I'm talking chicken or daughters). I am "Mom" to everything, except my cat, who swears I'm her servant:bow (typical cat

). I know from experience my mom-mode kicks in with my fleshy-kids, but I've never had a situation where I needed to for my furry/feathered-kids.

Unfortunately I have. I do heroic battle with the snaggle toothed raccoons on a nightly basis. I have a large breed dog that has gotten loose on occasion and had to wrestle around with him....... Had a pack of coyotes try to carry off my jack rustle terrier....... on and on and on

But like i said in an earlier post, living out in the country, I'm always packing something

It's prudent. I'll admit, shoot first isn't my first thought, but having a firearm at your side gives you more options when something does happen. And during deer season, well......... I've gotten lucky even when I wasn't out hunting at that moment.

i own dogs that have a very developed predator instinct (boxers) - they are never allowed outside of our fenced in yard

if they were to attack another human (other than home invaders) - i would put them down without a thought - if they were to attack someone elses livestock --- that livestock would be replaced asap with my sincerest apologies --- if they were to attack someone elses livestock more than once, they would be put down

i don't know what is more disturbing in this situation --- the dog owners utter disregard of someone elses property, or their complete inability to understand right from wrong

Would you shoot it if it was your own dog eating your chickens? I feel really bad for both the chickens and the dog. I don't think the neighbors needed to get so rude though. I couldn't have shot the dog. I would have broken them up in some other way.

Husband got ahold of CA. CA said what they were doing was not harrassement but disorderly conduct, and a class A misdemeanor. IF this was their first offense? The CA KNOWS for a fact this is not so. He knew of them! I wish I had been the one to talk with CA. I have questions, like what does all this mean? Lol Any one have any idea? I am DEF not a law guru!

No but I have had to find other homes for two great dogs . Now I go visit them when I am in the area. I miss both of them but they broke the rules .
