My chickens ar epets and pets only. I got advice from animal control where they said to never get in the midle of a dog fight or try to break up a vicious attack. They could easily turn on you. You have 2 choices. Let the dog finish his attack or take him down.

Funny thing is I was talking about this situation in my dog forum and no one argued about the situation. The dog owners were in the wrong for having an unsupervised dog and you were perfectly in the right to shoot it when your chickens and daughter were in danger.

If my dog would not stop going after my chickens while being hit with a shovel by my child and my child was screaming for my help, by all means, yes, he'd be dead. I adore my dog, he is my best friend and the greatest dog in the world but the safety of my children ALWAYS comes first. Fortunately for me, I can do a running recall with my dog and he always listens to me so it won't be an issue for us.

(seriously). I think that's more than I'm willing to bite off. I have to live here when said persons get out of jail(if they have to go). The money part probably wouldn't matter to them. IDK. There have been no harrassments today, hopefully things have cooled off where they are concerned! Maybe their daddy knocked some sense into them! I hope so....
