Hey guys so back at it again with asking the most basic questions but I just need to ask.

So today my grandmas farm actually had a tragidy happen. Her chickens (older ones not babies!) were all attacked in their coop by two raccoons. She called us and so we runshed down to see only 10 chickens were remaining out of probably 25-30 with 4 babies, one which had hatched during the time we were arriving. But my grandma took the baby out because she said they was no mother caring for it. I took the baby home and is now caring for her but one question I just need answers too.

Is it normal for baby chicks to chirp a lot when they just hatched today? My dad usually takes care of the babies when they first hatch and I take care of them 4-5 days after so kinda worried about her that I'm with her the whole time right now haha. Please let me know! Thank y'all so much!

It's because you only have one, from the sounds of things. A lone chick is a goner, in its own mind. Without siblings or its mother, it would stand no chance of survival in a natural setting. So they cry to try to find their mother or siblings.

You can give it a stuffed animal to cuddle with, hang a feather duster for it to go under, or better yet, get another chick or two to keep it company.

I have about 10 that's going to hatch soon so I hope that will be okay! But I saw a mother chicken with a chick about a day or two old, do you think if I put her with her she would care for the chick or would she attack it?

Probably not a good idea. The mother may well reject the new chick and kill it, or just not take to it and leave it to freeze or starve. Some mothers are happy to take any babies that you give them, but others aren't, and if you don't know this hen and how she will react, it's better not to chance it.

Okay gotcha. I have 9 baby chickens but they are way older than my new baby so would I have to get them used to each other or should I just wait for the hatching ones? Also thanks for helping me out so much I just am on edge about every little thing because these babies are so fragile. :D

No problem! How far along are the eggs?

I have over 50 screaming chirping hooligans going crazy at the moment. I put a space heater in the room to keep it about just under 98° so I can turn out the lights and get them to calm down late nights!
:barnie
That's crazy but amazing!!! Ahh congrats on the 50 chicks! I know how you feel I have 9 chicks that are about 5 weeks old and they need attention 24/7! I brought home this little baby and they were jumping and chirping like crazy. But the baby actually slept well last night. When do baby chicks that just hatch normally eat?
