online Crazy Egg Chain Chat thread

I got more guinea then any of the other breeds I got from the swap thread. They had trouble hatching though. The shells where so hard they couldn't do anything but put a big crack in them. A few where able to get out but I helped most.

Have you ever hatched guineas before? Their shells are ALWAYS hard. Their 'pips' are nothing but a huge crack. Eventually they bust out the rest of the egg and hatch, but it's normal for guinea eggs to 'crack' instead of pip.

My first time, so now I know. Thanks

I learned paypal policies the hard way and these policies can hurt the innocent as in my case. I sold a dozen button quail eggs on ebay - the buyer received 18 eggs - opened the BOTTOM of the box and took out the extras. She then taped the botton of the box back up and sent the 12 back to me. She notified paypal that she had returned the eggs and they refunded her full purchase price. I called paypal and explained the circumstances to them and they gave me my money back but she got her money back too. This was the second time this buyer got me and I found several others that she ran scams on and 2 ebay accounts that she was using. I will say this - most are honest and she has been the only bad egg in years of selling on ebay. Circumstances were different from bad packing but the rule is still the same and I would sure use it on those that don't have enough respect for themselves and too lazy to do it right. Please don't use this tool against those that do pack their eggs good but the post office is rough on them. pidgeys eggs were clearly not packed properly and the sender is at fault.

This has been my worst year ever for shipped eggs.

I tossed 16 earlier today........two were rotten & all the others were either completely scrambled or severely detached air cells. A lot more earlier quitters than usual too -those seem to be the ones that go bad- and I don't candle until day 18 - so by then some are ROTTEN!!!!!!!!

My best development on shipped eggs so far, is showing to be ducks, turkeys & guineas. Not sure how they will be doing come hatch day though!

Ducks and guineas handle shipping a lot better than most other species. Idk about turkeys, I never have very good luck with those.

I had much better luck with my shipped duck eggs, than any chicken eggs. That is until just recently.

no-siree-bob! I've recieve broken eggs before on some really excellently packed eggs and I would never hold that against the sender. I think most folks do their best to get you the eggs in 100% condition, but I swear that the PO sometimes plays warehouse hocky with the boxes.

All that said, I still believe that common sense is not as common as you'd think.

Hey... someone said that if you mark the box "syrup" that they're gentler with the handling because if they bust the box it gums up the equipment and they have to clean it. Dunno if this works or not. I mark all mine with this giant sticker:

I dunno if it ensures better handling enroute but I certainly get some interesting looks at the Post Office! LOL!

If anyone is interested in a "syrup sticker" for your boxes I could craft one of those too and we can see if it helps.

I have gotten to where I don't mark my boxes at all!!!! I pack them tight and snug and pray for the best. I was told by a po employee that they employ those that will shake the box and listen for hatching chicks!!
