They probably have cocci if they are standing in their own feces. Easily treatable. I would try them for that price. But you know that the BB breeds are good for pretty much eating only, right? Some people have had some that could breed but they aren't supposed to be able to breed naturally due to their size.

Another blazing hot June day. I need to get some pens done , so I get out there and check the compressor. It still leaks, but seems to be holding enough air to power the staple gun. I load the heavy thing in the Mule and go back down behind the barn.
It was shady there before lunch, now in full sun. So I drag the panel I am working on into the shade. Unroll wire, plug in compressor . Nothing. Check power source, it's hot. What the heck?? Resume nailing with hammer and poultry staples. I am in a crabby mood because the well pump is not working again, and along comes DH and he says, "Would you like to go to Red Lobster for dinner?" Silly question. So I did manage to finish one 6'x8' panel today. I am building up against another pen, so I only need one more full panel with a door, and half a panel for the area that butts up against the coop, plus the top of course. Also dug a ditch along the outside of the existing pen to bury wire and finished that spot. After a wonderful meal, we returned to the farm. Of course, no one fed the critters while I was out, so I get busy doing that. I turn the water on, and it seems a bit slow, but it works. I feed the animals and attempt to water them. No water. Return to house, inform DH well pump not working again. Once the wires get wiggled properly, I am able to walk into the woods after dark and water all of the goats. I don't need a light, i know the trails well. The fireflies are flashing like fairies, it is so pretty! The stars are bright but i can't see the moon yet. I sing a little song to let the goats know i am coming. They don't like to be startled. Today there were only 2 goats in the wrong pasture, Louise and Domino. Louise showed me where she was jumping the fence at feeding time, so i know where to fix it. I sit on my heels and wait for the buckets to fill. Louise comes over to get her head scratched. Then it is Nivea's turn. I hear a horsefly and a mosquito. I am glad i don't have to spend the night outside. Well, by 10 pm it had cooled off a bit and everyone has full waterers for the night.
i did call a long distance number today twice to try and find out about my quail permit. So he leaves a message on my machine with yet another number to call. DH hears the message and says, QUAil?!? Yes dear, i am looking into it.

No offense, but as it seems your hubby doesn't much help you with the critters, I don't see where he'd have any say in what you decided to raise. Your hubby and my dad sound like they'd be good buddies

Well, they are my critters . He actually has put in a lot of work here since we moved in. We fenced the perimeter of 10 acres, then cross fenced. He closed in the front of the barn and built a hay loft. Plus he sometimes asks if there are projects I want him to do. But he works full time(somebody needs to pay the bills). I enjoy building, just right now it is so miserably hot! At least he did not say no about the quail. Got another number to call tomorrow re: permit. Someday I will get an answer!
Oh, and he cooks supper almost every night, and does laundry.

lol well, I wish i could find a man that knew how to cook and clean and do laundry lol. I am a lazy housekeeper. I cant help it it is genetic, my grandmother trained my grandfather well though LOL. He does a lot with the birds and watches my daughter while I work and he cooks and cleans and does laundry but alas, he is my grandfather lol. If I didnt work these wicked terrible hours I would get more done at home. Wish me luck on finding another job lol. Trying to sell some stuff we need to get rid of on Craigslist.

My dad lays on his bed/couch all day long and complains that 'such and such' needs to be done (dishes, dinner, cleaning, something with my birds) but won't offer to help do anything.

Have you ever had a moment when you are looking at your birds and you realize you might have a few too many, but there are still more that you want to get?
