I think confusion is genetic, you get it from your kids I do try to put my user name on my boxes as well as a business card. I usually mark eggs, unless they are mystery eggs...
Yeah, I have a to do list, makes you feel better to mark things off . Yay, I did it!

Having been to his house.. I know that his birds and sales are managed by him. He has a very successful ebay egg business - plus he buys/sells and trades birds loally (I should know-- I just bought 7 birds from him on Monday) Obviously transportation to the PO and visits to neighboring farms is provided by parents and gradparents. Don't know what the answer to this situation is.. just chiming in..probably too much

I also understand what everyone is saying. But at under 19 years old there needs to be someone guaranteeing all would be on the up & up. I have a 14 year old I work with consistently and has more knowledge than alot of people on here but wouldn't ask the rules be changed for him either. The rules are to help the all Not discourage the few

Shelleyga if you know this person that well then they could manage through you right.
I have seen others not allowed to participate on these threads and don't see why a special rule should be made for any others.

I have nothing personal against minors swapping....but, I'm not one of the ones, who have been burned in the past either.
I think if the minor, takes great care of his/her chickens, and has the "natural" want to share their chickens, and gain other breed/bloodlines...that should be commended and embraced. After all, their are adults playing on this thread, who have not taken the greatest care of their animals in the past...and they are still allowed to swap.

BUT, if we all remember...there was another one, not to long ago....that was under age, and had past issues of NOT sending out owed eggs.
And a few more minors, trying to swap, in the past.

The swap rule is "19 y/o."

I understand, that this minor, is one of the rare responsible ones, we have encountered on this thread...and would honor all of his swaps.
BUT, if we were to change/or flex the posted rules, for this one...it's not fair to the past, or future minors...who want to swap.

I say, have one of his parents, open a BYC account. Have them, in charge of his swaps. That way, he can still feel welcomed, and know that we are behind him, in his "want" to further his chicken hobby/interest. And appreciate, what he has to offer.

I don't have a problem with a responsible minor participating if a member in good standing such as shellyga vouches for them and one of his parents back him or her up. The last time we had this issue - the minor appeared to be lying and pretending to be a parent but this doesn't seem to be case.

My daughter is 12 so I do all her bird business myself but by the time she's 16 I might allow her to learn a little business sense and encourage her to do it herself with my supervision.

When I was 8 and first got birds, I took care of them with no help of anyone. When I was 13 and started breeding and showing chickens, I did everything on my own, the only thing I needed was a ride. I went to a swap when I was 11 and wanted a pair of silver mallards I saw, the lady had about 8 pair. I walked up to her and asked her how much she wanted for them and she told me $40 for a pair. I was not going to spend that much on 2 ducks no matter how cool they looked, I offered her $20, which she declined and said $35, I negotiated with her for a few minutes and then walked away. 1 hour later the same lady walked up to me and said she had been looking for me for 15 minutes. She said she would take my offer of $20, this has happened numorous times over my childhood. I consider them "achievements" I am always quite proud of my self, actually a little to much

. My mom would always say she was going to let me talk to the realitor to negotiate the price when we purchased our farm LOL. I have many other funny stories, but I don't want to bore you

At swaps I never accept any offers EVER. 99% of the time they end up paying the asking price, and even if they walk away, they come back 10 minutes later

I think the problems with minors posting in the BSA is that legally someone under the age of 18 cannot be held accountable regardless of who vouches for them. So if you were buying eggs/birds from him and he backed out on you....sorry about your luck, the law wouldn't do anything about it.

I think that if there are minors on here (which I know there are) that they should have to have a thing on there avatar or somewhere stating that they are a minor. I have ran across problems with minors. This is why I choose not to sell to minors myself. But, you don't know if you are or not on here. Not have to post there age but it should state somewhere that they are a minor.
