Only after third year of life....

I received three chicken on Mother's Day 2011. Today almost to the day my first chicken died suddenly, May 12th 2014. I always imagined about 5 up to 10 year life expectancy and caring for them even after their egg laying years. I miss my chic_nad, she encourages me to get at least two baby chicks to grow up together with the two older.....

Sorry for your loss. Depending on what breed they were, some chooks can't live more than 5 years maximum and they do tend to die around 3. Some can live for well over a decade.
