Oozing nastiness coming from chickens rear side

Wonder if the vinegar and nystatin cream would work? As that is the cheapest and I have some of the cream on hand.

Casportpony, I want to be you when I grow up! Great information! I was trying but have never had to deal with this before. Thank-you from me for stepping in here and getting Flock Lover what was needed!

Flock Lover, excuse me while I hijack your thread for a minute. After reading all of this, I started thinking about something I've got going on here with a couple of my girls. I'll take some pictures today and try to post them. I never made the connection until I read the stuff Casportpony put up. The hen's mouths do not seem to be involved but I may not be looking at it correctly. The rear ends, yeah, oh most definitely. One poor girl I had to put into the tub just to soften up the stuff so we could get it out/off of her. I really thought it was a problem with eggs. The stuff was quite firm and a bit like cottage cheese. Not a real good description but about all I have right now. I'll do the pictures.

Another question here.....if this is a yeast infection, it can be spread quite easily I am assuming. The same as in humans....see where I'm going with this? I have 3 roos in with 20 girls. Most of the girls are not showing symptoms at all but this would be just a matter of time wouldn't it? Oh joy! What a pleasant thought for first thing in the morning, lol!

Yes thanks very much. I had no clue and was about ready to dispose of her just because I didn't know and don't want my others getting sick. Sounds like it could be an easy fix if it works. I'm gonna start this here in just a little bit when the sun comes up and I will get some before and after pics on here for all to see. Also so how long should I do this treatment for and should it clear up rather quickly? It just doesn't make much sense because she didn't seem like this when I brought her and they were put in a brand new coop and run. Most of my chickens free range all day and the ones that don't are fed scratch and layer mash. They all get fresh straw/ hay in the pen once a week. So I am wondering if there's another problem that's causin this to happen. It appears that her crop is emptying ok. I don't know not sure just gonna have to try and see what happens. Live and learn by trial and error. Thanks everyone!!! I'll have pics up in a couple of hours.

Yeast is everywhere, all the time. Even in the winter and it's below zero it just goes dormant. Introduce it to a warm moist enviroment.......who knows where it came from. There are so many chance encounters in life that you may never know. Could be from where they came from and had been in a dormant state because her body was able to keep it in check. Using what I know about humans, if a mother has a yeast infection, known or otherwise, when she is pregnant or giving birth, that child will be more prone to these types of infections all their lives. I couldn't even get a good answer from the doctor why this would be so. Does it make that child a 'Typhoid Mary'? I have no clue, lol!

I am going to use the cream for 5-7 days and see if it will do anything to help. Now I've got to figure out the ACV ratio for 70 gallons of water, lol.

It's ok haunted55 were all here for the same reasons. But you know I guess it is possible to spread this. My hen doesn't show mouth signs either at the moment but as u said very kinda pasty cheesy like stuff all over her rear it would come out liquid like but hardens with time. And smells very bad. I was thinking egg problems but after talking with all of u it's possible that its not. I'm just glad that I don't have a weak stomach. But I had noticed that the roo and the other hen would peck her, she would come to eat and drink, they would let her but just as soon as she was done they would peck her until she went back into the coop where she would just stand in the corner. The roo wouldn't have anything to do with her when it comes to sexin her. My point is that there has been minimal physical contact between them but I Gus's it also spreads through droppings.

yeast doesnt have to be spread by a vector; anyone wiht a low immune system can also develop thrush as many cancer treatment patients find out. and some animalos are just more prone. i have one dog who is a walk candida environment... dietary changes bathes whatever, we've tried it all... so far white vinegar washes seem to help control it on her skin, some amreican herbal stuff in her ears, and thats that... so for the hen, it may be u need to improve/enrich her diet for fighting stress also, along with reducing symptoms, as any lady can say, u cannot ever get rid of the flora/fauna, but u can control it...

So does the regular apple cider vinegar bought at the Walmart or food city work the same or does it need to be organic, as I need to know what I need so I can proceed and try to take care of this problem

That's sounds exactly like what my hen has.

My hen roosts with many others and so far, I think she's the only one, but there *might* be one other, so I don't think it's a real problem, but I can't really say for sure.
