Ordering spring chicks....so much fun. What did you get?

Personally, I feel like I love the *idea* of feathered feet, perhaps more than the reality. For now, if a chicken steps in poop I can basically just knock it off her foot without too much trouble, but the notion of having to go out there with a bucket and wash poop off of feathered feet just sounds like a recipe for more work and possibility of infection. But I know people love them!

I'm on sandy soil and use deep litter in my coop.

I find that my feather-footed birds look after their own feet without need of my interference -- which, I am told, is not necessarily the case in areas prone to heavy clay mud or wet snow, either of which can clump onto foot feathers.

I haven't had the blues, but my regular FCMs from Ideal the last year they carried them are lovely birds. Large, calm, reasonable layers of large and extra-large dark eggs.
Great description - mine weren’t really lap chickens like my orpington, but were calm and curious. Liked to watch what we were up to, and not flighty. And we got an egg from each most days, with a break for winter.

I just received my order from ChickensForBackyards.com. I was very pleased with all aspects of the process through them. I ordered 6 birds and they sent 9 which was a nice treat. The extras are duplicates of what what’s in my order. Shipping notification was received Wednesday at 12 noon. My Post office called me 6:30am this morning (Friday). Shipping was from Missouri to NY. All birds are healthy, eating, and drinking. I have the following:
1 - Rhode Island Red
1 - Buff Orpington
1 - Black Australorp
2 - Silver Laced Wyandotte
2 - Splash Laced Wyandotte
2 - Blue Ameraucana
9 days and all are energetic and healthy! I have them all eating crumble from my hand and have the kids and myself holding them I’m not sure if short wings are an indicator this early but perhaps one Splash Wyandotte could be a rooster if so. Pic added

We got one black copper marans, one blue copper marans, two olive eggers, and a white leghorn because my daughter wanted a yellow chick.

Now 6 weeks later Broody Hen is insisting she needs chicks too. So I let her have some barnyard mix eggs from a friend. The rooster is an EE or EE mix of some kind (very muffy and beardy) and the eggs are one white leghorn, two green from EEs, a cream possibly from a speckled Sussex, and a tan possibly from a brahma or a buckeye. Hoping for a 50 percent fertility/hatch rate because I don't need 5 more chicks, but I wanted to give her a good chance of hatching about two. I have no idea how good my friend's rooster is at his job. Now I have to wait, and it's killing me ...

Oh, and my husband has no idea I switched out Broody's eggs. We haven't had a rooster in two years. So if they hatch I'm gonna have to explain that ...

A friend told us the Barred Rocks may not be friendly though...
SUPER sweet and docile.
Your friend is wrong barred rocks are the friendliest they are so sweet I love them mine I've had two two generations of a flock of barred rocks and they are the only ones that will actually eat out of my hand he will jump in my lap and they love me
