I don't think I can come

Our budget is tight for the summer and it is a long way to go for anything we don't *need*. My roomies decided they don't want to go, so unless someone nearby wants to carpool (I can pitch in for gas!) I am staying home.
Does anyone think there is a chance of ever having a chickenswap in the southern half of the state? You know, Roseburg, Grants Pass, dare I suggest Medford? It is just such a long way... especially with chickens in the car! I don't mean to complain, I know some of you have traveled farther. I just really want to go and it seems unlikely unless there is a closer event.

Ok everyone......

I NEED a Buff Orp roo!!!! I really would like breeder quality, but if its really really nice hatchery quality that would be ok. If anyone knows anyone too...please bring him to the swap!!!!!!

Do I sound desperate?

I hope someone speaks up about carpooling and that you will be able to make another one if not. I don't think Medford is planned, but you could always try and organize one for southern Oregon/Northern CA? I'd put out the feelers on a thread and see what you get! The next one planned for this particular swap is up North near Portland.

I've never even BEEN to a chicken swap so I am sure I am not qualified to organize one. I am really hoping to be able to carpool up for this one as it is perfect timing. If I wait longer, my surplus boys go to freezer camp. Maybe they will anyway, but I would like to give them a chance. I feel like I am running some cruel reality show... Many contestants, only one winner. All contestants shall be judged in a variety of catagories without their knowledge, some of which they have absolutely no control over (such as feather color/pattern) and the losers shall be EATEN!
But anyway... one of my coworkers (my boss actually) is thinking of going. I might be able to ride up with him, but it could be awkward. Me, my boss, his wife, and some chickens. For 3 hours each way. I just don't know.
And I still haven't won the 'should we get ducks?' debate. I can have turkeys if I want, but no ducks or quail. But, on the bright side they have not said no to more chickens!
So I still hope to see you all there, but I am doubtful. If I don't make it, have fun without me! Could someone take and post pics?

I know what you mean about the cruel reality show. I'm in the same boat with my roosters always. I will never send them to my freezer camp and I do my best to not give them people who will, but who knows their fate? I gave my two BBR OEGBs to a friend at the feed store and his bantam cochin rooster (one I gave him back in May) killed both of them within a week. I was just sick, but it was no one's fault.

I sure hope you get to come

And yes, we always take and post pics. Oh and if you ever want some pointers on organizing one, PM me and I'll help. I've only done one but it was a success (I think).

Just wanted to let everyone know I will be getting the word about the swap in the Philomath/Corvallis area on September 4th. My feed store, Del's, asked me to set up a table at their Customer Appreciation Day sale and talk about chickens(I can do that!). I'll be bringing some of my chickens for people to see, advertising my roos (

) and handing out BYC business cards (hopefully I can get some by then) and the swap flyers. The more the merrier and it's free advertisement! If anyone in the area wants to stop by, they will be raffling off a sheep, goat and pig (no, I'm not buying any tickets lol). I'm trying to talk them into raffling off my roosters

I plan to be there -

I have a pair of mille fleur d'Uccles, and probably some hatching eggs from them, and possibly a few other bantys of some sort or the other - since I decided I just want big ole hens that lay big ole eggs...

want: Hens, pullets (perfer young adults or 3-4 month pullets but may consider some chicks) EE's, Buff Bhramas, Wheaten Marens, Wellsummers, almost any good colored egg layers. Don't care about show quality just want good layers.
