Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

I don't know what is going on...they are all from the same set of eggs which had horrible air sacs when I got them but still developed and hatched. Could that be it? The one of mine and the other 2 I hatched from another friend are just fine - running around like wild things already.

Hmm...could be...air sac quality does play a role in the development of the chicks, and I guess ANY development problems could cause post-hatch mortality issues....

Maybe silkiechicken will have some ideas...she's the one who taught me to hatch and always has such great information and insight to hatching. The other 2 I have from the same seller are fine but they also had perfect air sacs, as well as the one of mine and the 2 from my other friend.

Sorry Laura, hatches are so nervewracking and so sad losing the little tykes...... I've got my first breeding of Dels going into lockdown Tuesday, biting my nails.

Cloverleaf, the Daddy is the one I sent you pics of that came from the eggs I got from you last March or so. I know I won't use him for Ameraucana breeding because of the leakthru so I found a fun project to work on with him. He is getting huge and is amazing with the ladies! My Wellies lay very dark eggs, some speckled so I can not wait to see the outcome!

Darn pet, I just threw him in with the ducks as I merged all my hens (finally, just in time to hatch more, sigh) as he of course can't settle with my big roo. So, just checkin'. He is cute, love his little rose comb
This is a picture of his lighter colored brother (no pics of him, hmmm)

ZooMum, I'm so sorry to hear about your chicks!

I hope the others stay healthy and hoppy.

I'd vote to drop the potluck, too -- one less thing to worry about...

Zanna - I'm PMing you about the honey.

Today I got the butterscotch peach and regular peach jam done... I'll get an updated "Bringing/want" list in the next day or two... will have some new potholders, too. Not sure if I'll get the fabric (stuffed) rooster figures done at this point... but I have 10 painted roos done.

So, do you have to buy and imediatly remove birds, or can you look around and then pick them up later that day?

Hmmm....I'm not sure...this will be my first time using the sale cages. There is someone posted at the entrance to the sale area to make sure sales are completed before people remove birds...I THINK you can buy them and then take them out later, as long as you have your receipt...

I PM'd you

I just found this and am excited to go! After looking at the website for the swap, I do have some questions though...

If I'm looking to buy a bird.. do I need to put an order or request in? I'm interested in finding a dark brahma pullet - is it rare to find these at the swap? If not, that's alright.. I'm sure it'll be fun either way.

I also noticed that there was a "Bringing" and a "Wanting" list. Do I fill this out or is it unnecessary to do?

I can help you with your questions

I'm so glad you will be joining us! I'll start with the bringing/wanting list. Since you are looking for a Dark Brahma pullet, you have a want

I will add you to the next one and see if anyone can help you out. There are going to a lot of non-BYC people attending as well with various breeds of chickens so if no one on the thread can help you, you might find something the day of the swap. It is perfectly ok if you don't have anything to bring. Lucky you

I will be posting an update tomorrow (yeah yeah I know I said this weekend

) with hopefully a lot more information regarding the day and of course, Alexis is keeping the website update too!
