Any suggestions for trapping coons? I'm beginning to think these Oregon ones are too picky. They are getting into our chicken feed in our barn. So far my super layer of hot fence has kept them away from the chickens but don't want to keep them coming in. I have a live trap. I've tried cat food and now marshmallows. I have it set up near where they come in and all covered but the opening so they can't get the bait without going in. So far all they want is the chicken feed in the can (and I keep trying to coon proof it) All suggestions welcome.
Cloverleaf -- Hatch still in progress but of the 5 eggs from you that made it to lockdown, 3 have hatched lovely lavenders, (the one from the "different" egg hatched the morning after lockdown!), one black and one still working its way out............ Pics to come! They are stunning compared to the "plain" Delawares hatched at the same time
Hello you guys! I'm actually an impostor from WA, but I basically live in Portland, OR (we live in Vancouver).
I'm looking for a breeder I can get a mottled, calico or mille fleur bantam cochin chick from to raise with the other chicks I'm getting in May. Anybody know someone close to SW WA?
Caught the coon. It took marshmallows with vanilla on it. I put them into a suet trap so it had to work at it and more likely trip the trap. 1 down and at least 2 to catch.
On a funny note - any of you have chicks that "flog"?? One of my 1 week old belgian quail antwerp chicks runs at me, bumps me with it's chest with wings spread, and pecks me. I then pick up this 2 inch tall attack chick and laughing said really? I'm going to have to name it chicken strip if it doesn't mellow out. Any suggestions? I mean really, can't eat a chick I've raised in my kitchen and besides it wouldn't be but a morsel. It is funny now but not if it's a "floggin rooster" later.

I've had chicks do that in the brooder than aren't a problem when they are older, I just ignore it when they are that age. However, I have heard from folks that have them that those guys can be REALLY naughty...
