That sounds like a good system! I'm all for good birds at a more affordable price. So, what you're saying is that I pay for shipment of eggs and chicks, and they pay for all of the other things like bloodwork? I really like the sound of that, but I would need some sort of price range before I seriously consider it. If it is a good enough prospect, I can save up the money for it. I'm willing to wait a year or more in order to get good stock

Do you have any idea how much, say, 15-20 chicks would cost?

No.

You or I are going to end up paying for everything. Ain't nothing free. That is why pc mentioned pooling our resources.

Right now the main way to bring in stock is as adult birds. This will allow eggs to come in. The eggs would be shipped to the quarantine hatchery. They hatch them and then raise them for a specified time (I have no idea how long that is) do the needed blood test and if they pass then they can be released to the buyer.

Buyer pays for:
shipping the eggs
hatchery time
government fees
testing
shipping of chicks for the quaratine hatchery to the buyer
quarantine hatchery for profit fee

The same thing works for importing adult birds the fees are simply higher as you can well imagine.
How much will this all cost? I have no earthly idea. I don't even know if my friend knows yet. And, of course, he has to make a profit or he won't be open very long.

pc advice was the best yet.

Oh...oh my. Well, scratch the cheap part I mentioned

Yup, PC's advice is definitely good--I can't afford to lay down $200 or more just like that.

I think that if I ever want to get serious about breeding pure breeds of any sort, I will have to save my money and do more planning than I am thinking. Perhaps I should just settle with saving money and breeding crosses until I can afford the real deal....

I'll be crossing mines until can get some pure ones, that will void inbreeding to much huh?
And probably strength those lines a little bit.

. Brazilians are the only oriental fowl i have, other than one braz x asil hen and one asil stag.

How old do Thai's have to be before they can be accurately sexed? I just hatched out a few and am just curious how long it will be until I can pick out the roosters. I can only keep hens where I live. I am really hoping the chocolate colored on up top turns out to be a hen.

The blue, black, and lavender colored chicks are ameraucanas. The two chocolate colored ones (top and bottom of pics) are the Thai's. Still waiting on one more Thai to leave the egg.

Please don't take this as rule, because I am new with the Thai, but, with my first hatch this spring.....All the white chicks are now black. All the light brown chipmunk colored ones are female, and the one that looked just like your brown ones, is... Blue!
