Nice! BTW Ish, about how old is that stag that I got from you? His free ranging ended today. Late this evening the feral rooster was cutting across the yard and evidently the shamo saw him. I happened to see them out the window. He would have killed him. The feral was desperately trying to run off...I don't know why he didn't fly away. I pulled the shamo off him. He was trying to stomp him. He was not happy with me at all! Tomorrow we put the sides up on a aviary. That should keep him in. And I will be putting site barriers up as well.

Hey Sharon I am guessing he is prob just over 9 month old? A little early to turn on but there is always variation within a line. I like to use sight blocking sides to my pens to avoid cage fighting. Sometimes these young stags will bite of more than they could handle and end up mangled in their first tussle glad this was not the case here.

He can pretty much tear up anything else I have here and he was intent. No amount of my yelling fazed him. I had to pull him off the poor boy. He was trying his best to run off but Bogart easily out run him and was stomping on him from the back. He was not happy at me pulling him off the poor chicken. He was panting and trying his best to get me to put him back down. I put up the sides to the aviary and it seems to work fine for the shamos. The arauncanas, however, can launch straight up eight feet and clear the tops of the sides from a standing start! The feral stays in the front till late evening...that's when the shamo saw him crossing the yard. Yes I scored a truck load of used tin. I have it to block the view on the outside edge. I may let them hatch some in the spring...then I 'll need to divide the pen although....I do like the look of those whites! LOL
