Ornamental Layer Collection by Murray McMurray

Hey ya'll! I want to know from other people, who bought this collection from Murray McMurray hatchery, got and if they got all hens or not. Also want to know what breeds they received! Thanks!

Stepping up on my soapbox. What is an "ORNAMENTAL" chicken? Is an ornamental chicken anything like one of those tacky racists jockeys that people decorate their yards with? If that is your intent then may I recommend that you save yourself bocue Dinero and buy a flock of plastic pink flamingos instead. Furthermore the plastic poultry has the side benefit of not pooping on your walkway, trashing your landscaping and they are immune from the ravages of predators. There is no such thing as an ornamental chicken, chickens are living beings so don't buy a flock of chickens with the idea that they are throwaway or expendable beings. OK, descending now from my soapbox.

I'm pretty sure "ornamental chicken collection" is just a marketing ploy the hatchery uses to sell a somewhat random set of birds. :)

To OP: just from looking at the reviews on the hatchery website it does look like a pretty random assortment. It does specifically say "females" though as expected some reviewers ended up with a few cockerels.

Pretty sure it doesn't mean that kind of ornament. :)

I think assortments can be fun; there's a list of possible breeds in the catalog description, and it's a way to discover breeds you might never order otherwise.
It's also entertaining to figure out what came! So enjoy them!

haha well this thread was fun right out of the brooder! haha no plastic lawn ornaments.

ive ordered from murray before and have been nothing but happy with the birds i recieved. although i havent ordered a collection before i would think it would be fun to wait and see what you all got. and you could get some very interesting birds you normally would not have thought about. i say go for it and update us all on what you think!
