Orpingtons of Different Standards

I don't really care if my birds are ever accepted by the APA, I have no interest in showing anyways.

I feel this is the general consensus among most breeders os the Imported Orpingtons.

IMO.

Out of 100 points, the eyes are worth 4 points; 2 for shape and 2 for color. That said, I see no surprise that a light eyed bird could win.

I do when you have nicer Blacks without a lite eye that could win. Just ask Paul Homer what he thinks of that choice!

There aren't enough differences in the standards to justify the change. What are the differences? According to the two standards

All of the birds on this link are GREAT examples to use and compare. It is hard to decide which one I would want if someone said I could only have one.

I'm with Jeremy on this one. I, too, could care less what the APA does - they don't control me or what I breed or to what standards. I don't show, I breed to MY satisfaction.

As far as changing the name to Britorp, Britishorp or Englishorp as somebody suggested, I do believe that is ludicrous. The Orpington was developed in England, hence they should remain Orpington. If any name is changed, it should be the American version - maybe to Ameriorp or Amerington.

I am curious though about something. I have only ever seen one person making a big deal about this and calling for all these changes. I'm wondering how many other people, if any, are on board with Jim trying to change the UK Orp name and/or trying to have them classified as a different breed?

Jon - I don't have a copy of the American APA, but I do have a copy of the British APA. I can post a copy of what the standard for Orpington is here if anybody wants it and then compare the two. If I am not mistaken, there are only 2 main differences between the two, according to the standards, leg length and tail angle. There are other differences, but I think those are the main ones listed in the standards, but I haven't looked at the ABA in a long while.

I am with you Joy. Only one person is now pushing this idea. And MAYBE Jim should start a new American UK Orp club to back his idea and pay the money to get it done. Cause I do not see anyone else going to that legnth to do it.
