So, my araucana has reached day 21 and so far 2 eggs have hatched (she had 4 left). My little pekin bantam (who is her friend and has also raised chicks) decided she’d sit in the coop next to her and just hang out..?

When I went to check on the hen and eggs to see if anymore had hatched my little pekin ran out screaming (i accidentally scared her and as she did me when i opened the lid of the hutch) and all the babies were fine.

It’s not the first time my flock has done something similar.
With other broods and chicks i’ve noticed that
the girls while in the yard all together, will wait for chicks to catch up to mum before they move on to forage elsewhere (almost as if
they’re protective of the chicks too in a way). And i honestly mean wait for them, in fact my araucana one day just stood in the yard, waiting as one of the cheeping chicks found its mum and then she moved on about her business.

Anyway, I know i’ve got a good, welcoming flock but am i silly to think that they’re at times helping each other/keeping each other company?? or is this a common thing?
