Our 4 yr old Rooster, Rodney isn't walking 😄

I feed my entire flock a grower or all flock feed. I keep oyster shell in a seperate dish for the females. 16% to 18% protein is about as high as I would go.
Gout is caused by uric acid build up from high protein and an overload of calcium.
I recommend Natura All Flock or Purina Flock Raiser.

All great info for you! Also, if you decide to use the permethrin powder in the coop a little trick, I learned on BYC, after you've removed all the bedding, pour a pile of it right in your pop door (clear out all the chickens of course) and turn on a leaf blower, it will turn the powder into a cloud that will get everywhere in you coop. Best wishes to you and Rodney ā¤ļø

I would get rid of the mites. You've been given good suggestions for treatment.
IF he's heavily infested with them, this could have brought him down further.

Feet are a bit puffy, he may be suffering from Gout, but most people don't report loss of use of legs with that, just limping and sitting about more often.

Work on hydration first. Then offer his normal feed. Egg, tuna, beef, etc. can be added to entice him. I would get some poultry vitamins into him as well.
Change of feed at 4 years old, sadly is not likely going to make huge changes in his health.
If you happen to lose him, then getting a necropsy will give you more answers.

Thanks a great idea!!! The one story we have about using permethrin is that it can be harmful to cats and we have two avid mousersšŸ¤”

All such great advice, thank you so much for taking time to help.šŸ’• I didn't realize they can eat tuna and beef. I read dog food too? I have a lot to learn. Until I can get to the supply store I'm giving him the trace mineral supplement we consume and give to our cats and dog, made from sea veggies and aloe vera along with colloidal silver. He seems to have a great appetite and seems more alert today. And... tonight he raised up and seemed to put weight on one of his toes! I feel like there is hope now. So grateful that I found this group!! I will keep you updated.

We'll be working on the coop tomorrow. In some ways it's a blessing this happened so we are now aware of the bug issue.

How long have you been raising chickens?
