But..thats not what we were talking about..
We were talking about breeding dogs...
You are RIGHT about there being no shortage of dogs in shelters! I agree with you on that! Again..
plenty of pure bred AND mutts in shelters..
Maybe everyone should stop breeding dogs then??
Actually, that's exactly what we're talking about. Why do you think we don't have a shortage of dogs in shelters? Because every John and Jane Doe looks at their dog and says "Hey! Fido's really cute/sweet/smart/well pedigreed, let's make puppies!" They breed, they give them to friends, sell them in the paper, sit outside
Wal-Mart with a cardboard box.
And eventually those puppies grow up and they aren't cute. The kids lose interest, they chew too much, they bark, they get sick, they wander off, or they get old enough to breed and the cycle starts over. And sadly, a lot of those dogs end up in shelters. Or they end up running off to 'turned loose'-the ones that find their way to the pound in those situations are the lucky ones.
Irresponsible breeding is a cause of pet overpopulation. Responsible breeding is not.
