Our Grim Situation

and prayers from NJ. Very moved by your situation. I wish I had any more thoughts of how to help your family.

Ninja, there are no words to express how sorry I am to read of Alex's condition. I pray that his doctors are able to find the cause of this and that he will be able to be treated. You sound like a wonderful, caring, loving wife to him, even though you're human and have moments of frustration.

Don't beat yourself up over that, I'm sure he understands. And I'm sure that if the tables were turned, he would have the same kinds of moments.

Very sorry to hear you are going through this.

I recall watching a television show a long time ago about a family that lived in a home that had gotten black mold in it from their fridge leaking onto their wood floor in the kitchen. It never got cleaned up properly and their insurance company wouldn't pay to have it ripped out and redone. Everyone in the family, with the exception of the mother, seemed to have some sort of a slow reaction to the mold. In fact it sounds a little bit like what you are describing. That same show also talked about wood decks that were treated with a certain chemical and it was also making people ill. I don't know if he is ever around a building that could potentially have either issue, but maybe it's worth looking into.

I pray that they find out what's going on and are able to help him ASAP.

Ninja, I'm very sorry you and Alex are going through this. I can't offer any advice, but you will be in my thoughts.

My mother has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and seems to have some of the other symptoms you mentioned. As a control comparision, she has been untreated for most of her life. She has poor short term memory, is uncoordinated and sometimes clumsy, and occassionally has trouble speaking, especially when she is tired, and is extremely thin (always thin now emaciated). She also is very smart, and has excellent coping skills. She takes notes on conversations and situations to help her memory. I know she has thyroid problems which can exaccerbate the bipolar symptoms.

They know so little about brain chemistry and mental illness. Hopefully this is a passing thing. Good luck. I'll be think about you.

I really hope they give you an answer soon.

My first thoughts, heavy metals poisoning (can even come from eating fish) or toxic molds. These can be in your house or some where else. Sometimes, the exposure can have been a while ago with it taking the mold a while to do the damage.

I think you said they are testing for heavy metals, and what about arsenic?

I am sorry i should just offer my sympathies and hopes for you to find out soon.

Stupid question....

How can someone be "too young" for alzheimers? I hope that isn't the problem, but this disease isn't age dependent. It is more and more believed to be a type of diabetes (google type 3 diabetes). It is more associated with the elderly because it takes a while to manifest itself, but diabetes is hitting younger and younger people.

Here is an interesting article about a doctor who started using coconut oil to help her husband with alzheimers...
