Ninja, I'm very sorry you and Alex are going through this. I can't offer any advice, but you will be in my thoughts.
My mother has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and seems to have some of the other symptoms you mentioned. As a control comparision, she has been untreated for most of her life. She has poor short term memory, is uncoordinated and sometimes clumsy, and occassionally has trouble speaking, especially when she is tired, and is extremely thin (always thin now emaciated). She also is very smart, and has excellent coping skills. She takes notes on conversations and situations to help her memory. I know she has thyroid problems which can exaccerbate the bipolar symptoms.
They know so little about brain chemistry and mental illness. Hopefully this is a passing thing. Good luck. I'll be think about you.
