Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Hey everyone! I've been on the go nonstop, but I'm finally back, but still a little short on time! I absolutely love the pictures of everyone's hens and the stories about them! It's pretty amazing how much they worm their way into our hearts! I hope you will all continue to share here! 💞

We had a fantastic visit with our son & his family! My husband asked me if I got my baby fix and I told him it would never be enough...I did have a lot of snuggle time with him & can't wait to hold him again! 💞

The fence my husband put on top of the chicken pen seems to have done the job intended, not a single hen got out!

I came home to a mess of eggs, we averaged around 10 per day. I actually brought in 12 today!

How big is your flock in numbers??
@cavemanrich : I have 14 @ present; 4 Campine, 3 BRs, 2 Favorelle X, 2 Wyandotte bantams, 2 Aracauna & a standard lavender Frizzle.

I hope to expand again this breeding season & add 6 golden Campine & 2 standard silver laced Wyandotte. I'm not allowed a rooster in my area so don't have my own breeding program.

Just tucked the flock & rabbits in for the night. Here are the eggs from 9.1-9.4!

On the rabbit front: I'm still waiting to see if Daphne is going to kindle, so far she hasn't exhibited anymore nesting tendencies!

My husband was able to pick up the crib today! I was excited to find this crib as it is almost the same height on all sides, it will be easy to make the top for it! We went right to work getting it put together. The walls are dollar store foam board, they have a paper coating on them. My son designs & builds foam board & 3D remote control planes...this is some of his stash! My husband took a couple of drawers that he had and made an expandable floor. He wants to start the chicks in a smaller area and as they grow we will expand it until they have the full run of the brooder! We will build the cover tomorrow and set up the heat lamp! We will start them with a Mason jar waterer and I hope to add a horizontal nipple waterer! I am also hoping to add PVC feeders to open up more space for them as they grow! Our chicks shipped today, praying they arrive safely and on time on Wednesday!
That is such a great idea mine is an old shipping crate that I got from a company by me

@cavemanrich : I'm sure you've a much larger flock than I do. :) Apart fro a RIR what do you have?

I only keep pets, and recently lost one, so this is my current flock of 7.
1 RIR, 1 Polish, 2 Old English game hens, (banties) Silver Duckwings, 1 Japanese Bantam, and 2 Seramas.
The one I lost was a 4 year old Silver laced Polish. Sister to the one in pix below.

Next week I am adopting another Serama, and another mystery chicken. Reason I say Mystery Chicken, is,,,,,,,,, not sure what that person will have available, and it has to be a hen. (no roosters allowed in my Town). Will see when I get there.
I always add to my flock in at least 2 chicken increments. This avoids flock pecking on solo newcomer. The Magnificent Dual :gig usually hang together for moral support during integration.
