Our Mixed Flock Journey!

I loved having a camera on Sydney as she was hatching this summer. It was amazing to see how active she was while broody. Of course some of the most fascinating videos come at roost time.

I do have to say that on really cold winter days it is really nice to be able to check on them via camera and not have to go outside and open the coop to see.
Having one in the coop would be really nice especially as we keep getting snow! I'm not sure when we will get the cable run for the camera as we keep getting snow! It was almost gone yesterday, but we now have more than we did...it's still not much and hopefully won't be!

It's funny but it feels good to have helped. I wish when I had started out I had known about this site. I am truly glad that my learning the hard way is helping others to not have to do so.

I used to have a heat lamp pointed at their water dish to keep it thawed. So dangerous but I was willing to take the risk to not have to carry water out all day long. Once I got the heated water dish, well it was life changing. Of course this winter I am still providing fresh water every morning like I am some kind of farmer but it is right outside the backdoor for use while they are free ranging.

The cameras are just the best. You get amazing wildlife videos on yours. I need more with sound. They did not have sound ones when I got my first set. I love the new sound one that I have.
We started keeping chickens probably 25 years ago...I agree it would have been nice to have this website at that time! It's such a great resource with such awesome people! :)

Sounds like you have a busy end-of-year and New Year’s ahead of you.
We are going to be so busy! First the trip and then doing the remodel...I think we will be meeting ourselves coming and going! The remodel is getting real, I bought my new kitchen sink last night...my husband has to build a new sink cabinet for it as we decided to go with a farmhouse sink. We will start moving the base cabinets out so that we can tear out the old flooring and start laying our new tile, we've had our tile for quite awhile we bought it at the same time we redid our entry, we didn't want to take a chance of it not being available when we were finally ready to start the kitchen and we wanted the flooring to be the same. Then we have to stain the lowers cabinets, paint the uppers and build a new cabinet where my desk is. It makes me tired just thinking about it...lol!

Everything is going to look fresh and so pretty when you're done Rene!

Good morning Debby! It will be so nice...like having a new house...the doors on the lower cabinets look old and tired...honestly I can't believe we moved in here almost 26 years ago...the years go by so fast!
How are you doing today...all settled into your new home?

26 years in one place is a long time. I've never lived anywhere that long! Guess I'm a serial mover

Getting settled in nicely, thanks for asking! I'm looking forward to warmer weather in the spring so we can do some things outside.

That's the way I spent the first 17 years of my life...my dad could never stay in one spot!

I'm glad that you are settling in...what a good feeling! 💞

Wow. It will be beautiful when it is all completed!

It is so much easier having this group of wonderful resources. I'm glad you joined us. Don't be afraid to offer me some common sense suggestions as well. @MaryJanet changed my life by suggesting a simple phone alert. Sometime I can't see the forest for the trees.
Phone alerts are an essential part of my life. I'd forget all sorts of things without an alert. I'm glad it worked out so well for you Bob!

BY Bob, you have no idea! I have learned so much from you and the other posters in my favorite threads! And of course, the articles, and the medical emergency posts.
I read books and articles I googled about the care and feeding of chickens, but they tend to give general knowledge, and don’t touch on the everyday unexpected things that happen.
This site has helped me beyond belief.
Me too. Specific advice and common sense. Helps me a lot and builds my confidence. Love this group!
