Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Made sure I spent a little time with the chicks this morning, before heading out to help my husband!
Day 11!

We have 5 acres, but only have about 1.5-2 acres developed! The rest is sand and sagebrush! It's amazing how much you can fit on 1 acre! I had a horse -CB, but I had to sell him in 2008! I had sepsis and after that, I just didn't have the strength to take care of him! My husband was doing it for me and would have continued, he's the best, but the horse was mine and my husband had enough other things going on! I also had a 75g saltwater fish tank that I decided to give to a friend...same scenario as the horse! Some pictures below! We lost our yellow lab, Mr Drake, lovingly known as Drakers 💞 a couple of years ago, he was 14...miss him still! I also miss my horse! The barn is now full of our son's car parts, our lawn mower....you get the idea! I forgot how great it looked until I saw these pictures again! A pool picture and a picture of my beautiful Mr Bentley...we lost him a couple of months ago to kidney failure, still cry about it sometimes! He's sitting on the kitty wash station, which is disguised as a towel rack...lol!💞

After 25+ years, I finally talked my husband into an above ground pool! I got a fantastic deal on it, less than $500! That being said the steps cost the same. My husband built me a solar cover real! I hope you can get one and not have to wait as long as I did...my kids "oh sure, now that we've all moved out you get a pool!"...lolView attachment 2065344

So many memories of my beautiful pets! Miss them all! 💞
Oh my.. your horse was gorgeous!! And the pool looks inviting.. that was a great deal! So funny about your kids ... we actually had a pool when my kids were young... And I sure do get it about your pets.. I lost my Cocker Spaniel a few years ago and I think I cried for years.. I literally could not think of him or I’d cry.. which is sad cuz I’d have to put him out of my mind.. and we’ve had four labs for the first 25 years of our marriage... so it was strange when we no longer had one.. and we have four cats now :love
How many children do you have..? I have 5.. four adults and a 16 year old.. and 4 grands...

He was a pretty boy and way to smart! Lol! It was mostly my daughter that complained, jokingly, but we did have a hot tub, so they weren't too deprived...😂 They used to sit in the hot tub and watch movies, I would make them smoothies! I really miss those days! We've had 2 labs! The first one was my dog, we bought him for the kids, but he was mine! He was under my feet all the time! I also cried for years about him, but I get emotional thinking about our other lab too, he would smile at you the only way a lab can!🥰 I've always had a dog or cat or both, it is weird not to have any now! We have 3 children, they are all adults and just one grandbaby! He might be our only one, but I'm okay with that! I'm dying to meet him, pictures & videos just aren't the same, but it's better than nothing! 💞

No Chick picture today! We had to go get supplies and then worked on getting the rabbit hutch attached to the chicken pen! My husband raised it up for me because it was just to low. We built it for our children's pet rabbits, so kid height! I told him that I'm going to add more boards to the legs and paint it, so it doesn't look so scabbed together... 😂 that will happen a little later. He has another board to add, but the cordless drill quit! We bought supplies for the other hutch, it will be built to match the height of the one shown and will be placed to the right of it! We will also be working on getting the auto water system set up, it will be used for the rabbits and chickens both! We will just have to figure out how to keep it from freezing in the winter! We will also be making hay feeders to attach to the outside of the cages! I'm hoping to get the rabbits sometime this week! Chick pics will be here tomorrow!

Looking good! Having it taller will make working with the rabbits much easier :)

Thank you! Agreed! That's why I had my husband raise it up. I did not want to have to stoop in to clean or to pick up the rabbits. The height is now perfect for me, still a little low for my husband, but much better than it would have been! Thank you Debby! 🙂

Today was crib cleaning day...I completely removed the litter, vacuumed every nook & cranny put them back in & immediately had new droppings...chick life...lol 😂 They each made a fuss when I placed them in their temporary playpen, but were quite calm as I picked them up, 2 at a time to put them back into their crib!

All clean!

They really do enjoy their little roost!

Decided that they needed to spread their wings & fly around after being cooped up in the playpen for all of 15 minutes...lol!

I decided to swap out their 250W daytime light to the 175W that I bought! I will see how they do. I will still turn on their red 250W light at night as some of them still sleep under it! There is plenty of room for them to spread out if it's too warm under the lamp! They are growing so fast! We need to get busy and finish their coop so that it will be ready for them when they are ready to go outside!
