Our Mixed Flock Journey!

I have to say, now that my older (16 weeks and 15 weeks) pullets are approaching egg-time, I am getting excited about the prospect of having our own freshly laid eggs. 🥚🥚
It will be so nice for you to have your own eggs! 💞

Love corn on the cob but, so far this summer the stuff from the grocery stores has been very disappointing, looks good, taste crummy. :sick
I hate when I buy fresh veggies of any kind and they don't taste good. Crazy you can't find good tasting corn this time of year!

That 1st egg is memorable...hope you'll share a picture with us when it shows up!

We got the new section of fence up on the enclosed pen this morning! I told my husband if they continue to get on the pen roof they are very determined...he said "if they continue to do that they are ready for the stew pot" lol He's definitely tired of projects and we will be helping our son with a few while we are at their place! Yes, that crazy girl was out and Penny was on the pen eating grapes this morning...hopefully this takes care of that problem!

My husband told me that he had to put one of my BO hens back in the pen today...moving the feed containers didn't work! I gave the rest of my chicken wire to my friend to help her with the expense of building her coop, but she has decided that she can't get chickens right now, so she will be returning it to me! My husband said as soon as I can get it back he will fix it so that they can't get out! I'm thinking about trimming their wings, but don't know if that will be enough to keep them from flying up on the hutches, not sure I want to take the chance of them being unable to fly, but have still them getting out of the pen!
I hate to say it but wing clipping probably won't stop them. Many hens learn to compensate. I won't clip [& I have chronic escapees] because it makes it harder for a hen to escape when danger threatens. We are in the process of extending & enclosing our run but as I have Campines & Wyandotte bantams I'm not confident of success.

Yeah, I really didn't want to go that route! We originally had banty's & those chickies could fly, I was hoping these girls would be fluffy bottomed enough to keep them closer to the ground...:gig
Welcome back! I'm glad that you found my thread again! 😊

I'm sitting in a rocker with my arms full of sleeping baby! It's been too long between visits...he's getting to the stage of, you're not my mommy or daddy! Beautiful, beautiful boy...my heart is overflowing! 💞💞💞
