Our Mixed Flock Journey!

I honestly had no idea! I definitely get enough eggs, so that's not a need that I have! My friend had these chickens before and he loved them, but I think a predator got into the coop and destroyed his flock...he's a pretty soft hearted guy, so I honestly don't think he knows this about them either! I will give them a good home and hopefully they will be able to live a longer life with good food and the freedom that they will have in their new home! Thank you for sharing this sad story, it has opened my eyes a bit further!

Most people don't when they start out & buy their chickens in good faith planning to give them a good life then suddenly find their great little layer has reproductive issues & ups & dies in a nasty way. Or lays itself to death. Or is old & tired before it's time. @BY Bob found it out with Leghorns. I did ISAs because they were easily come by & I was totally clueless. Too much heartbreak for me.

It was a wonderful thing she did for them. They finally had a real chicken life with a kind guardian. They were truly lucky.

They were literally the only chicks at TSC so that was what we got. No research. Jumped right in. Truly special ladies. Super cute and friendly. In many ways they were the perfect hens for us to start with.

They were literally the only chicks at TSC so that was what we got. No research. Jumped right in. Truly special ladies. Super cute and friendly. In many ways they were the perfect hens for us to start with.

I got my leghorn girl and the 2 ISAs from TSC. I chose the ISAs but my leghorn was supposed to be a buff Orpington. The folks there can’t tell their chicks apart, ha!
I give them the best care I can, and feed them a healthy diet, and enjoy their presence in my world. That is the best anyone can do. At this point in my life I have outlived all my pets (except for the ones I presently have, of course).

We all learn as we go along ~ not just about our chickens but what we as owners can cope with. I know I don't enjoy the behaviour of so called dominant breeds & now avoid those. I can cope with things like my escapees, which many people can't. It's about finding the right mix of personalities between you & your chickens & making that work for you.

When I started I deliberately chose big boofers because I didn't like handling small fragile bodies but personality wise it is my bantams & Campines I really enjoy so I've had to learn they're not half so fragile as they seemed.
