Help!
I have a four month old silkie hen that came to our home with 7 other chicks the same age. Some regular size some bantams. Everyone got along great without issues.
Recently this silkie was attacked by one of my older bantam hens. The back of her head had been pecked down to muscle tissue and she was missing feathers on the back of her head. It was horrific. We tended to her and she has since made a tremendous comeback. We started reintroducing her to the flock and at the same time noticed she was developing a cross beak. She is now smaller than the other hens (I am now making changes to her diet and beak maintenance to help her bulk up) but not everyone is accepting her back into the flock. I worry about her and feel sad to see her try to join them only to be chased away.
She free ranges with everyone during the day and sleeps in her own coop next to the others while her feathers grow back in. I'd like to maybe sneak a couple of the sweeter birds in her coop at night in hopes that she can begin to be accepted back. Please share any advice you may have. She is the sweetest one of the bunch!
