Is he leash trained at all?
I prefer a pinch collar over a choke collar.

Agreed, you can advance to a pinch collar if the check chain doesn't work good enough.

Pinch works better and easier, never went back to the choke.

Ya, it is a more mediate affect, but half the time, most dogs don't need such a sever correction. Our dog immediately corrected himself with a normal check chain. OP already has a normal check chain to, so she might as well just use that, and advance if needed.
