Right, they only peep once they have pipped internally. How long since you first heard it? Any sign of an external pip?

If you play some chick noises or broody hen noises it could help motivate the chick right now the chick is resting from the internal pip and it should start to externally pip soon. After it externally pip it could take anywhere from an hour to 24 hours for the chick to zip and fully hatch. Hatching is super stressful, but if you are patient, it it usually pays off. If you think the chick is stuck, or having an externally difficult time, this is a good article to read. Be super careful if you decide to do this, and don’t rush.

I am a helper. Some people aren't. I have waited too long for some and it is so sad for me. I also assisted two with no problems resulting. If I were you, I'd read up on assisted hatch, just in case. If your humidity is too low, the chick won't be able to get out on its own. 24 is usually the limit to waiting before helping. Best wishes.

I have personally assisted one hatch & have gotten a healthy chick out of it.
I understand to stay away from the arterial wall of the egg. In case you guys are all freaking out over there.

This particular egg came from a broody hen off of a neighbor who was trying to give me fresh chicks by picking eggs for me day of. Didn’t happen, I got one surprise egg. So I have ZERO idea how it was “raised” until this point. We also live in Joshua Tree California, so it is a desert out there. The egg looks so dehydrated/ air cell shrank a ton compared to pictures I have seen. Which is why I am particularly fretting over this egg. If I had control over its entire incubation, then I think I would just leave it alone. It has been sitting in my incubator on its third day. Yesterday was 24 hours from when I heard a peep vocal. It still rocks, but I am afraid it may be stuck internally. I am going to make a safety hole in the air cell to peer inside.

Insider on me: I grew up with a psych nurse mom/our neighborhood nurse. My dad was director of respiratory care. I myself am a certified hemodialysis technician. “Dialysis nurse”
So lots of medical training and I grew up with it. I also assisted my mother on a c-section of a guinea pig when I was only 8 years old.

So that everyone else can from my actions I am going to post all images of this experience. Whatever the outcome may be, we can only learn through each other.

I’m worried that it had been trying to pip, there are little dots on the inside of the inner membrane all in a half inch area. That could be something or nothing. I can see the chick moving really week inside. I delicately pinched a tiny bit of the internal membrane where I saw the “dots” to see how the veins and arteries would react and I saw a tiny bit of blood soak into the inner membrane. So I stopped. The egg is now back in the incubator until I can get more information on how to move forward. If anyone understands what I am seeing in these images. Please reply, so I can be better informed.

Would a chick be pipped elsewhere. I know I’ve heard of it. But is that a possibility in what is happening here.
