So with the 12 I incubated I got 5 chick's 4 were infertile and 3 stopped in the early stages !!!

Doesn't seem like an incubator issue if they were early quitters. So far I only have 2 blood rings out of the 29 I set in the PI-24. I had few clears but thats not the incubator's fault either. Will have to see how it goes beyond lockdown.

I will be going again on april 1st with some eggs i bought ... i learnt a bit first time around so im hoping to increase my success rate !!

Hi, new here and new to incubating, just got a p and I 12 egg incubator and have a few questions, sorry if I sound dim but not to good at following instructions and the guide book is not the best, have semi assemble and wonder what the 4 slats are for, also this may sound dumb and I am dreading it is lol but what is the thing that looks like a small torch? Also if anybody has the time what do I need to do once I plug it it? Sorry to be a pain but want to get it right.

The slats are to separate the eggs ... the torch is for candling the eggs ... i suggest you clean the bator before you use it as it would have crap in it still from the factory ... run it for an hour or 2 prior to using it

Thanks, how tight to eggs do slats have to be? Do I need to put water in at start as I have read differing things ( have got a separate humidity meter coming but may be a few days and I think eggs will be here today)? Have bought eggs from ebay from reputable seller, do they have to go in incubator immediately? If not how long do I have? Bought a book but it mentions nothing about lock down?

They should be snug to the point where you can move the tray and the eggs roll and don't grab !
The eggs need to sit for at least 12 hours at room temp especially if they have been shipped before you put them in the bator !!
Lock down happens in the last 3 days when you stop turning the eggs and increase the humidity in preparation for the chick's to hatch !!!
