Hatch update, I have 6 chicks so far. A couple days to see if the other 3 hatch, but I got the 6 I was hoping for. I stopped at Brookville Feed and Seed (formerly Agway) and they do sell Purina so I will be able to use the coupons there. Also, there was an ad on their bulletin board for an Amish woman who processes birds, Just in case anyone out my way needs some processed. And every so often on godubois.com there are birds for sale, nothing lately but I check it every couple days, just in case.
congrats on the new chickies!!! i got serama and silkie eggs comeing this week i'm totally excited to get in!! they will be my first to set for this year and i can't wait. also got serama youngens comeing too.
yep godubois does have them from time to time some of the people who put them on i know and i put them on there also from time to time as well. check pennswoods.net also as they have chickens alot too.
i didn't know feed and seed had that brand so i will check it out, thanks for posting that. yes i have used coupons at haags also. i don't know if dubois feeds take them or sell that brand i'll have to check there too it might be another close one for us. hey do u know if the DE they sell at feed and seed is food grade or not? i got some and it doesn't say and i forgot to ask if it isn't i can only dust them if it is i can use it anywhere so i need to find out.

I posted the pictures in the incubating/hatching eggs section under the heading :
"Well, Here they are-Caution- fuzzy little chicks!!"
But you can see one picture if you click on the link for my page below(it is the last picture on my page). 7 little fuzz balls, a week old and doing their thing. How is your hatch going RChicks?
The DE I got at Brookville Feed and seed was in bulk bags, repackaged into 5 pound bags, I didn't know there was different kinds. I was going to dust them and put some sparingly in the coop and run, unless that is a bad idea?
My wife's uncle is giving me two more incubators, my new favorite uncle!! My wife is worried about what I have gotten into, although she is a good sport about the 7 chicks that are in the basement.
alright i got a question is feed and seed through the red light on the left where it says agway? dh says it is the new agway and i thought it was the old one now called feed and seed. so we need to know if that is feed and seed or if there is another feed store we missed.
i bought mine in 5lb bulk bags also. yes there is a difference. food grade has less silica mabe like 5% or less can't remember now and can be eaten and put in food even people can use it. however non food grade has like 67% silica something like that and is poisonous. depending on how it's processed depends on which it is the one with the low silica content is always food grade. i didn't notice it till i got home and had it for awhile that it does not say just says de. i assume it is food grade or they wouldn't sell it there. i wonder if ya asked for a copy of the tag ingrediants if they would give u it or let u see it, i believe they have to by law show ingrediants for anything sold in a store incase of reaction.
the reason i asked is i forgot hubby had put it in a season shaker and we used it for my handicapped silkie and that night i made meatloaf and accidently used it. i was freaking but i had made a ton since there is 7 of us so i didn't want to waste it. so i took out almost everything i could see on top of the mix just incase and none of us got sick so i believe it is ok,lol we are still alive but there was such a small amount i honestly don't know. we did alot of net research first to be safe from what we could tell by the texture it was the safe one.

Feed and seed is where the Old Agway was. They still have the Agway signs out there though. You could probably call and ask they about the DE, or stop by. They are pretty nice people. There is another feed place in Brookville too. There use to be a large building that was their mill, but it burned down a few years ago, but they still operate out of their ware house and a small trailer (kind a like the kind you see at job sites) It is across the creek from Bi-Lo. If you didn't know it was there you would miss it, there is no sign or anything. It is on the same road as Mason's Beer Distributor and A-I towing. I called them recently and they sell layer mash for $8-9 a bag, I don't think it is purina. When I need feed next time I may go there. My bantams don't go through feed too quickly.
ok i was right then we were at feed and seed. i didn't know they had the other one. will have hubby read ur post he drives i don't so we can check out the other one too.
i usually go to haags for feed, rabbit feed, cockatiel feed and bedding and some supplies since i have a big flock so far it has been the cheapest for more feed. but yesterday i went to dubois feeds for waterers and dh was a sweety got me another turner for my lg so now i got 2 turners cause my hova already has one!! sometimes we go to tsc in punxy also for stuff if the others don't have stuff we need. i don't get to go to brookville to often but i love to check out different feedstores so if we need things we know where to get them. i'll have to dble check on the de then.
thanks,
silkie
Like I said, the other place is not really a "Store" at this point, but they sell feed. I think it is Race Street that the feed place is on. Look for the small white trailer, that is the office and the warehouse next to it is where you pick up the feed. It is called Reed Milling (814) 849-5369 . If you have trouble finding it, just ask a local where the feed store is that burnt down a few years ago is.
