Paint Showgirl Thread

Sounds like a good hatch. Got any pics? Were they all Showgirls?
Lots of babies have a pinkish skin, mine don't so far but I have seen many that have spotted skin under the down and they are for sure Paints even though it takes awhile to develop the spots.
I noticed that the amount of spotted skin does not always equal up to the amount of spots though.
Best time to see the skin color is when first hatched before the chick dries.
After looking at lots of Paint chicks from different people and different breedings you get where you can tell when the pink skin is going to turn black and when it is for sure just pink skin forever.
Did you notice any difference in the baby that did not turn black skinned?

My pink skinned paint showgirls from silkie sue turned black by 6 weeks. Only 1 didn't. I hatched 18 out of 24.
I think I'm still going to sell off the ones from her flock that didn't hatch without pigment holes. I have no interest in hoping that bad traits will eventually be hidden (which makes breeding selection even harder) if they are there to begin with. Definitely going to avoid people who breed for numbers and profit- it's why I don't buy any babies from hatcheries.

Still looking for the pictures LOL
I guess I'm expecting some Silkies this week...I gave ten eggs to a friend as a Christmas present [sort of] they were from my Silkie and Showgirls who had just about quit laying, I wasn't sure they were any good.......not sure if the roo was even breeding any more.
She wanted a Showgirl, but since my chickens are living together for the winter I have no idea what kind of chicks she would get. She told me today that 7 of the ten were alive and doing well due to hatch Wednesday.
I'm anxious because this will be a test mating of my roo Cuss and my Paint hens and White Showgirls.
The good news is that she only wants the SG and is going to give me back the Silkie chicks.
I am excited!
I wasn't going to hatch any chicks till spring and now I might get some anyhow!!! Surely some will be Silkies!!!
I know this is a SG thread but I might post pics even if the ARE Silkies.......OK?

DH got me a fancy shmancy Brinsea Octogon 20 Advnace for Solstice! Woot! There are about to be a LOT of paint babies...

We really need a mature roo ASAP. I am waiting for the maturation of/ looking for a nice quality paint showgirl rooster or cockerel with a bow tie. If anyone knows of any available birds that are near 72901 or can be shipped for a reasonable amount, please PM me or tell the seller about me. Thanks!

Here is the ONE, SINGLE decent Paint I managed to hatch in 2012. How does she look to you guys? She was born without ANY pink skin whatsoever, so there's that. Please be brutally honest. Any ideas about sex? She is currently 6 weeks old.

(HER SIBLINGS ARE FOR SALE IN 8 WEEKS AND OLDER, BTW.)
