Parker, CO?

Important information for Parker residents!!!!

I was talking with the Planning department and found out that Chickens are actually not allowed in Parker right now however they are about to have a vote on the issue, looks like they will be discussing it tomorrow night. Below is the information I found.

Interesting! Anxious to find out how this turns out.

I don't know what the planning person was talking about, chickens are allowed in Parker. I found it in the charter. Also the way my new HOA words it they are allowed in my HOA as long at it is not more then 4 and they are pets. Legaleses can be helpful.

Minchi, where did you find that (charter)? Maybe they changed it with the Douglas county change last year.

Minchi - that information is strictly not true, it sounds like the Parker Planning Commission gave you the run around.

According to the current housing zoning laws, in the municipal code 13.4.190, residents are allowed up the 50 fowl per parcel (property). However, in subsection (c) you are required to house the birds at least 200 ft from an offsite residence or business. This is a prohibitive distance for most suburban residents (though not if you have a large plot).

I, among others, are asking the town council to amend 13.4.1909(c) to allow for small flocks with a minimum distance of 15ft or so, to be in line with restrictions in other cities like Denver and HR. The number of birds in the small flock is up for debate, but the intention is to let suburban residences keep hens without worrying about the 200ft distance. Please contact the mayor and/or town council voicing your support! :)

I figures the woman had no clue what she was talking about. Any idea how the Mayor is leaning? Any city council meetings coming up that will allow the community discuss the topic.

I will contact the mayor and town council, however I went to the building and code class last night. There is a lot of work to be done there, I think they look at it as a fad not as pets, comparing it to the miniature pigs. I keep running in to an arrogance when I talk to people about allowing them. The way the rules were explained to me was that they did not want chickens in Parker but did not want to say they were not allowed so they set the requirements so high that no one who lived in Parker would have a lot large enough to own them. I think the fact that not only does Highlands Ranch allow them but planned the community so that they would be allowed at some point will help the cause. However this seams like it is more up hill then it was when I started.

Hi,

I know this was an older thread but my wife and I are moving to the Parker area this next month. We were very excited about possibly having some chickens. However, when looking at the municipal codes for the city it appears in a home there are distance requirements from other homes (if I am reading it correctly).

13.04.190 Household and domestic (noncommercial) hoofed livestock, poultry and fowl.

Subsection covering it,

(c) Domestic, noncommercial use of poultry and/or fowl shall include, but not be limited to, chickens, turkeys, pigeons, exotic birds and ducks. Containment of the poultry or fowl shall be required and not be closer than two hundred (200)
feet to any off-site residence or business on an adjoining property.
The maximum number of poultry or fowl allowed shall be fifty (50) on any one
(1) parcel. Poultry or fowl shall not be allowed for commercial purposes. (PLDO Art. IV §19)

Here is the link to the municipal codes, when you get to the page just use CNTL F (find) and type in chicken or poultry.
