Parrot Lovers - Your thoughts on this Ebay auction

My thoughts on this auction are unfavorable.

The first thing that grabs my attention is obviously the picture. If she is willing to put a picture of the female that looks like that, I'm scared to ask what her male, which was not pictured, looks like. You don't see much of the living environment, which makes you wonder.

If the "warnings" about the dangers of attempting to hatch the eggs, weren't enough to scare me off, the little tidbit in the end certainly would have.

Don't judge us by our status, we've been dealing with livestock for 15 years.

What the hell is that suppose to mean?!?

Erm, red flags!!

No. It being naked like that likely signals some kind of distress in the birds life. It basically mutilated itself, but pulling out all it's feathers.

Now, it doesn't neccessarily reflect it's current owners, it could have gotten into the habbit from a previous owner. It lets you know the bird was really not healthy at one point in time, physically or mentally.

The seller and auction is a train wreck waiting to happen. IMHO

Best odds are the problem was dietary or environmentally induced. But please be aware it can be a matter of lineage. Pluckers exist in the wild. Most times they are run out of the flock because of the danger they pose and are naturally culled. But some survive to have chicks who also have a predisposition to plucking due to endrocrine issues that are genetically linked or the very real potential of learning the behavior from the parent.

I think along the lines of wolf-kim. The same thing caught my eye:

** Do not hesitate to bid, because of our new to ebay status, we have been in the livestock business for over 15 years. We are just new to Ebay... **

" livestock business" jumped right out of there. The parrot is just livestock to them and it's all just about making some $$.

I just watched a Discovery show last week about people smuggling them into FL in tires! They most def are still wild caught!

sorry this post is off topic but

why did you have to temp me?! I really want a parrot or cockatoo or SOMETHING!

Sorry OK my off topic post is over.

I don't know about Cockatoo's but her little naked self doesn't look right (aside from being picked). Is she thin...or....? I can't quite put my finger on it.

I have a 50+ year old wild caught male Yellow Nape Amazon who has never picked a feather since the day I first bought him (about 25 years ago). He's not tame and cuddly like hand raised birds, but he can be caught for nail trims and veterinary procedures. He talks like crazy, loves to terrorize his toys and our dogs and cats. He likes to be scratched on the top of his head, but that's it. One of his favorite things is to fish you in for a head petting session, and then bite HARD, yell, "ouch" and then laugh his fool head off. That's a great game according to Sam! He even knows how to turn on a radio, but I had to take that away because he liked to turn it up full blast! Now he has a little birdie "jukebox" that he likes to play. It only has one volume!

Oh! I forgot to add the seller states that she feeds Zupreem like it's a good food. It's an okay food (it is pelleted and all), but it's not exactly great. If that's all she feeds then the diet is definitely part of the problem. Most of ZuPreem's products aren't organic and are full of fillers and food colorings. They are advertised as "natural." In order to successfully feed a diet such as that, she should be heavily supplementing it (up to 50%) with fresh organic fruits, veggies, and grains.

I feed my bird Harrison's and have for about 15 years (when I first discovered it. I do supplement it with organic fruits and veggies and other safe table foods, but Harrison's doesn't recommend it (however, my vet approves).
