I understand what you are saying, Matthew..
America was founded on the assumption of coming here to "make it big" (and of course, other reasons too.. religious freedom.., freedom from tyranny,etc...)
Noone should be punished for being rich, that IS the American Dream afterall...
As long as they are being truthful and not hiding income and avoiding taxes that way....Setting up accts in other countries..etc...
I say leave them alone.
NOONE HAS to pay into charities... or feel obligated to do so.
The day people start to decide HOW others should spend their money.... we are NO longer in free America...
Just MY opinion..

I love it when some people say to raise the taxes of the corporations, they don't pay taxes out of their money. when they have their taxes raised they raise the price of their products or they cut expenses by laying people off.
we need to buy more "made in U.S.A." when a corporation moves manufacturing overseas try not to buy from them anymore

I couldn't agree with you more!

Absolutely agree with you.
Taxing the rich/corporations to restore the economy=massive fail.
The "Robin Hood" theory of taxation is sheer foolishness. If taxing the wealthy at a higher rate worked, our economy would be booming-they are already taxed at a higher rate.
Raise their tax rate even more and then bemoan the fact that all of these corporations have pulled up stakes and moved overseas and taken their jobs with them, why don't you? Punishing someone for being successful in this country doesn't encourage them to stay here at all. Would you?

The massive problem is that the government refuses to be responsible with money. When the money is gone, they refuse to learn to live within a budget. They keep searching for more money so they can keep spending. When they can't find money, they print money, which causes inflation (which is actually a additional tax on the masses).

It is a huge urban myth that the upper classes in this country can pay for everything needed to support the rest of us. They don't make enough money, even if you take every cent from them, to pay for all of everyone else's expenses. They already pay a lot more than anyone else. They pay 36% income tax to the feds while over a third of the population pays no income taxes at all.

There also seems to be another popular urban myth that the rich pay no taxes at all. That is simply not true.

I listened to a large group of protesters in the "occupy" movement shouting that every transaction in the stock market should be taxed. Well duh. Nothing like being stupid and really proud of it. Apparently, they don't pay income tax so they've never heard of the Capital Gains tax.

Let's not get into this increasingly popular idea that someone else should take care of all our needs for us. What happened to growing up, leaving home, and learning to support ourselves?

The sentiment that those persons who think taxing/taking from the rich is the answer is very similar to the attitude of the German people prior to the rise of Hitler and the overall negative attitude that the Germans had towards the wealthy in thier country. I think there are some in our government that would use these people to pass legislation that would be negative or class warfare on the wealthy.

I would tax capital gains and qualified dividends as ordinary income, remove the cap on FICA and require people to show need to draw SS benefits. i.e. the little old lady with 100k+ in annual dividend and interest income doesn't get to draw her social security check. No, it's not fair but few things in life are.

paying taxes is not patriotic. if those rich people want to pay more there is nothing stopping them from opening up the IRS website and forking out some cash, no need to go forcing others to pay more just because you feel like it
