pea fowl pen

Thanks for the photo comments. Most of the perches i use are old trees that have been blown down in past hurricanes. I'm in the process of building more pens soon so i'll keep everyone updated on new photos.

We wanted a nice roomy pen for our five peafowl, so we made a sort of big aviary. The pen is 40x50 ft. and is about 15ft. tall at the highest point. Conected to the pen is a small covered pen and a tall covered shed each covered section also has perches but they roost on the perches that are not covered.

The crosses are mainly the perches the birds sleep on. There is a netting covering the whole pen, but it can be hard to see in the pictures. My blackshoulder peahen Ice is in the back of the pen walking, that helps you get an idea of how big the pen is and this isn't even all of it.

This is our newest pen extention.

Here are the birds on a long metal pole in the pen. They use that for flying up and preening themselves.

This is the really small covered pen. They like to hang out in it even though it is so small. That is my peacock Dragon who is the same bird that is in my avatar.

This picture is from last fall when the pen didn't have as many plants as it does now.

Here is another angle showing some more of the big pen.

That is my setup, so far we have really liked it. It feels really open and it doesn't feel like a cage, which is why I like it.

This is my aviary, I dont have a shot of the whole thing. It is 15 ft by 45 ft and made out of locust posts. It is shaped like a barn frame, and is divided into 3 15 ft by 15ft pens.

I am not sure if I uploaded those pics correctly. Here are the divides they are 4 or 5 ft tall and made out of black tarps (I don't recommend tarps the birds peck holes through them).

If you have any questions or want a pic of the whole thing just ask I will try to find one.

I'm so jealous of your pen Minx Fox! Wow, thats really cheap for netting. I plan to cover an are about 100' x's 100 so i'm gonna order two nets that are 50x50. Recently we have been having problems with OWLS! They haven't tried to get any of my peafowl but my poor ducks and chickens are taking a hit. Its annoying that they are protected by the LAW! U can't kill them even if they are attacking your animals but I've had enough of it already. I have my free ranged peafowl picked up bc it has gotten to the point where every night the owls are sitting on the electric lines and trees waiting to attack. I've tried everything, scarecrows, fireworks, lights and nothing seems to work so netting seems the only logical anwser. These owls are HUGE! I never knew they could grow so big but the bigger they are, the harder they fall! Anyone know of any techniques to get rid of these horrid creatures? @ndy
