Peafowl Aviary

I was just offered a trio of 5 yo peas, a cock and 2 hens. I would love to take them, but need to pick an appropriate location. Part of that choice is going to depend on the size required. Of course, more is always better, but what is the minimum size requirement for an enclosure? For the cock, and for the 2 hens together?

Flight netting is usually a nylon netting with 1 or 2 inch holes (I use the 2 inch to let snow and leaves fall through) that is used over the top of pens. It's a soft alternative to fencing the top of an enclosure, so that if and when the birds "flush" upward suddenly, they don't break their necks or backs on the ceiling.

It looks like this:

WOW!!!

That looks NICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks fantastic but if I were to use netting the Rock Squirrels would chew through it or for sure a Raccoon would would tear through. Putting electric around the pen to keep them from climbing wouldn't work because of all the trees they could access to get on top. Sure not going to cut down our shade trees in South Central Texas. Can you post pictures of your whole aviary/pen kuntrygirl? Looks to be well made and nice looking.

I have my breeder trios in 10 x 20 and 10x25 foot pens they fit comfortably in.

I use scare crow sprinklers around my pens mostly at night. Anything breaks the beam they get a shot of water at them. I also have electric fencing around the pen area as well. This really gets rid of predators cause if the water don't work, well a wet coon on an electric fence gives one hell of a howl LOL! I was going to run electric fencing at the top of the pen just in case but so far never had to. I have 2 inch netting on top. Never seen a squirrel go into the pen, just sparrows. The hawks can see the black netting and never flew into it yet, they land in the trees and look at the delicious birds under the netting and then fly away. I also have 5 dogs that run the 3 acres of fenced land as well, they keep the coyotes out. My goats rub up against the chicken wire and break it leaving large holes in it and stretching it out big time so I placed a few scarecrow sprinklers to keep them out as well and so far everything is working like it should be

We have a lot of predators, too. We ran heavy wire cables at 3' intervals across the top of our pea pen & fastened chicken wire to it. Sides are 2x4 welded wire & have chicken wire in the ground around the outer perimeter so nothing will dig under. Their coop is 3 sided - open on the front with a metal roof. We don't get a lot of cold weather here. The entire area is 40' x 60' - they can fly from one end to the other & we have several tree limbs - we took out one tree but left the trunk & nailed limbs out from it - they like to run around & jump & play.

Do you have any pictures you can post of your enclosure? Thanks.
