Peafowl for 2013

Java green x Indiablue = 50% spalding.       Javagreen x 50% spalding =  75% spalding.      Javagreen x 75% spalding =  7/8 spalding. These are all hybrids ( a cross between two species.). and cold tolerant. Contrarily, they say Javagreen is not cold tolerant and very flighty, not easy to tame. Java green is javagreen, there is no javagreen spalding. At least, that is what I understand.
/quote]ssorry half java. Half spalding or pied to breed with my india blue so would a half spalding /java. Green be able to tolerate missouri winters?

Do you all think that the first eggs of the season are usually fertile? Should I get excited about the 1st week of eggs or not? This will be their 2nd year laying eggs. What do you all think?

Quote: Java peafowl originated in an island called Java in an asian country "Indonesia"--scientifically called Pavo muticus. It was first crossed with an Indiablue (Pava cristatus) by a person named Spalding, It was an inter speies cross, so they are hybrids. The resulting hybrid chicks are named after him or her. Similarily, there are Indo-china green peafowl and Burmese green (from Burma) peafowl. The resulting chicks from " a 50% spalding x an Indiablue " cross are still spaldings, but with only 25% green blood and 75% indiablue blood

I found my first pea egg of the year and I am so excited. I did not take the egg. I will wait to see how many more they lay and if either girl will go broody.
