PEAFOWL MAY/JUNE HATCH ALONG!!!!! COME JOIN THE OBSESSION!

I use the injectable ivomec for oral and topical and I also have the pour on that I can I use iver-on topical only because the insert ingredient smells like rubbing alcohol but it says on the package it can be used internal and external .

I gonna tell you what I used when I raced pigeons years ago to get rid of feather lice. Cats flea powder. Do NOT use dog's flea powder only cats. Have someone hold the bird and open the wings and powder them. Be sure to rub it in so it gets into the smaller feathers. But if one has lice then the others do as well.

Lol, if I had a mean rooster that I could *see* lice on, I'd go out there and give him the ivermectin on his neck, his tail, orally and IM or SC, but the only mean one doesn't have any that I can see, probably because I dusted him not that long ago.

If my ivermectin experiments fail, I'll go get some cat/kitten fea powder and try that.

Thanks,
Kathy

Do any of you use the 1% injectable orally, topically or IM/SC? Or do all of you just use the 5% pour-on?

-Kathy
I use the pour on Ivermectin 5% I use about 1/2 - 1 cc for adult birds. I was told this by Deerman. He said even though you are using 1cc only about .25 - .50 is actually going on the bird's skin most gets absorbed in the feathers. Injectable is 1/2cc into a grape (being sure the bird only gets one) or under the skin at the base of neck. That is what I found in my notes. I don't have a 1% solution of Ivermectin, isn't that for small caged birds? I would recommend you getting the pour on for cattle and give the bird a .25 dose of it. It will not hurt her if you do give it to her because Ivermectin has a very large margin of safety. It will stay in her system for about 30 days and the lice will die. Remember the proper dose for the pour on will not be in your book cause it is for cattle.

Thanks for the info, might have to buy some pour on and see how it works if I can't get the injectable to work...

The ivermectin 1% bottle I have is for livestock, not birds, but according to my book, the dose for birds is the same as the dose for cows, 200 micrograms per kilogram (2.2 pounds).

This is the Noromectin that I have:

And this is the book:

Update! Three have pipped externally, but one pipped at the small end. The other two are peeping, so I guess they have pipped internally. Really got caught with my pants own on this one, lol, looks like I'll have to go get some cat/kitten flea powder. Maybe I'll dust her then vacuum it off after the bugs die?

Curiously, have any of you had them pip at the wrong end and what did you do about it?

-Kathy
Yes and because I sat on my hands and didn't bother them after lockdown I lost 5 that way because I could not see the pip because it was also on the bottom side, don't know what happen and why but the other 4 hatched just fine by themselves and I haven't had it happen sense
