Well they ARE taking their time... The last one is slightly pipped but no one hatched yet. Its driving me crazy...

I now have 4 hatched. From pip to hatch its barely taking 2-3 hours. So quick.

Ive got 3 hatched!! The 2 that pipped wrong end still knocking im not helping them out until the early morning so for another 10 hours of maybe even longer. Perhaps they will manage on their own. And there are 3 pipped waiting to zip.

Ive just moved the four into the brooder one not looking great

They can do without food and water for 2 days or more.....but, I introduce food and water as soon as I put them in the brooder. I just sprinkle some chick feed on the floor of the brooder and put in a waterer and dip their beaks. I think if they begin to eat and drink they just thrive better. Also if I have one or more that seem weak I add some chick vitamins and electrolites to the water. Seems to perk them up. It takes a day for them to get steady on their feet, so if they seem wobbly that's pretty much normal. They are also usually exhausted from the effort of hatching.

Oh and I use either paper towel or an old bath towel on the floor of the brooder for the first couple of days and then switch to shavings. It seem to prevent the inexperienced chicks from trying to eat the shavings. Once they learn what food is they don't seem to try to ingest shavings. Also I put newspaper under the paper towel or shavings but I never have them directly on newspaper (too slippery).

Aw thanks. Three of them are picking at the crumbs so cute. Iv water in there but will try the dip beak when they wake.
I bought a brooder which came with a non slip mat, is that ok alone for them?

One of my wrong-end chicks has pipped again in a different spot. Still wrong end but it gives me hope it will hatch. The other lot happy in the brooder eating and napping :-D I also introduce water and food straight away but i dont leave Water there until the next day. They are so unpredictable.

Only 1 waiting to hatch, zipping now !!! The other 7 including one of the wrong-end chicks are doing great !! What about yours?
