Yesterday evening I came back from our holliday trip through Germany and Switzerland.

We had a great time with just a few limits because of Covid. We mostly enjoyed nature. Especially the mountains in Switzerland where fabulous.

Coming home the chickens were all fine. I do have 3 broodies now. Because my neighbour who looked after the chickens didn't know how to break their broodiness. And I found 7 eggs in the sand-pot the neighbour didn’t see. 😉

Not about chickens.
It is really strange that its almost as nothing is going on with Corona in Switzerland. Only in public transport and line ups in crowded public places we had to wear a mask.

In Germany I felt safer because everyone has to wear a mask in all the shops and even in the walking area’s in the restaurants. But there were some cons too. It makes travelling through Germany on the highway a bit awkward. It was not possible to sit on a table in a restaurant (Rastadte) on the highway in Germany after 21.00 h.

Guess you'll be busy breaking their broodiness? Maybe your hens waited for you to leave knowing that the neighbor doesn't know how to address the situation.

I cleaned out the coop again yesterday... I have a stone coop... with a cement floor... so my thought was to get a wet-dry-vacuum to clean it out in the future... I could get the spiderwebs... and I could hose everything down and then suck it up. It wouldn't be so dusty. What is your thought on that?

@abpatchy As long as you do it on a warm day, so it can dry out. Go for it. I have rubber mats and pressure wash them with a Karcher.
My shipped eggs have jello air cells. Pretty neat to see and learn about all that can happen to eggs and air cells that are shipped, now live! 2 are saddled but none are detached, so there's that to be happy about.

My other eggs are due to hatch tomorrow. Only 9 made it to lock down. 1 infertile, 1 early quitter, 2 stopped developing. That's nature telling me, enough is enough! 🤣

I would just muck up with a spade and an old hard broom. With good weather it’s a good idea to put a garden hose on it, sprinkle some diatomaceous earth on it and let it dry.

Only if there are pests such as red mite in the coop, I would steam.

It is very dusty... when I use a broom the struff flies everywhere... I'd prefer not to use a broom all the time... of course I would only use water during the warmer times of the year... unless I am just vaccuming spiderwebs. I can't wet it down and brush out the water... there is a ledge... that's why I think a wet-dry vaccum would work well.
After cleaning the coop on Saturday I woke up on Sunday with a cough and phlegm... I was not sick.. it was just the stuff I had breathed in. Not healthy.... My coop is pretty big... 20squaremeter I believe... It would make it easier

I don't think I have mentioned yet how much I love my boys... :lau
they are so beautiful... especially when the sun is shining. They are turning out really well... when I think back, worrying if they would turn out to be good roosters and up to the standard. I was worried about the white in their feathers... the brown in their chest feathers... their combs... and look at them now! No more whites in their wing feathers... for most of them their chest is a nice dark black... their combs turned out nicely. I worry to much!

Happens to me all the time to. When I log in here I can see the notifications though. Just sketchy email alerts
Happens to me too! Last time I think there were two pages of new messages? And I only saw them because I checked... thought it was kinda odd that nobody posted anything. You really got to check every now and then.

For the german members... www.siepmann.net has 10% off everything with the code "Treuerabatt"... maybe you need something for your chickens.
